In the interests of HOL I shall keep my counsel. Edited by Willo (15 Aug 2023 11.06am) So you make a statement stating you will not be making a statement .

I see the two VAR's & the match official have been *ahem* 'not selected' for this w/ends matches, wonder why?

Cheers eagle man. So why would Premier offer guidelines effectively opposite to the rules, notwithstanding their very ambiguous wording?

I wish i could give you a proper answer DW, what the people at the EPL HQ do is anybody's guess, same as all big firms tho. I agree with both you & Elpis, it is a quagmire, one that thankfully i no longer have to negotiate after 40 years of reffing & then being an assessor. Trouble with the laws as they are & have been, everybody has a different interpretation of each & every one of them, Offside law being the biggest, imo. Each country has different ideas on how the game is played, the governing bodies(FA, EPL & EFL) also have different ideas as do the Refereeing bodies like the PGMOL & Referee's Association in England. Who's right? End of the day its the Ref's on the field of play. As for Ayew, he was offside before the ball was played & when it was played & before it may or may not of touched a defender, therefore, once he received it, boom, flag up. Pity, good goal otherwise.

Im all for goal line technology but they really do need to ditch var .It creates more problems than it solves with refs not even making decisions anymore but waiting for var intervention . There was a game at the weekend ,I tink it was Newcastle V Villa when a Newcastle player a mile offside is through on goal . Because its a goalscoring chance the lino is told to not flag and leave it up to VAR . The keeper saves and it goes out and a corner is given

Funny but even so it was a shocking decision. never mind, they get enough help from referees anyway, usually in the form of a penalty whenever they need it referees just continuing the big club bias at Old Trafford, twas ever thus and always will be

Well you only have to compare it to Liverpool's shocking penalty at Selhurst Park a couple of seasons back to prove your point about big club bias. Agreed. The challenge by the keeper last night was pretty close to a martial arts full on assault. Going for the ball as a keeper doesn’t entitle you to wipe out players, more particularly when you get nowhere near the ball. That was a penalty all day long just as the one given against Palace wasn’t.
