We'll be fine. No new underwear for me. I reckon one of our existing players will come alive now the pressure's off from last season. A season to enjoy.

So much complacency - certainly not starting the season stronger than we finished last season in terms of available personnel and an away game to start at one of the promoted teams even with their injuries, is not the best. The next 3 weeks in this window are very important.

We have to have faith in Roy and the team. I'm excited to see Lerma play for us this season and think with Zaha gone we might see a greater return from Edouard. With palace though you never know, its important to remain optimistic and remember that the main target is survival. We're not a huge club with unlimited funds but we're in the strongest period in our history as a club, it might not be the most exciting football at times over this season but it's vital we build for the future without taking unnecessary risks.

We will be fine, we have some good players, just not enough of them! Relegation isn’t even in my thinking and I look at the 3 that came up, they should all be going straight back down. Burnley last night, that defence will be their undoing, complete rubbish and they are the best of the 3! Get another striker, quality striker and we will do better than last year. Sure we will miss Wilf, but when he was out injured the players stepped up to the plate.

Currently assuming we keep Eze and Olise (big assumptions) I am going to predict 14th. If any of these things changed I'd revise that up or down. Essentially this is like the weatherman saying 50% chance of rain...

Clearly Luton and The Blades are favourites to go down, so there’s only one place available. All the teams from 8th downwards lack quality goal scorers… only about three in the whole league now that Kane’s gone! Can Roy continue to work magic with a low quality squad? Possibly, but enjoy it while you can… remember Charlton?

I struggle to see much positivity coming out of Bournemouth, Everton or Wolves either so unless we implode unexpectedly we will be fine. Originally posted by soapbox

The gulf between Premiership and Championship seems wider than ever, I can remember when Charlton were plying their trade in the top league, there wasn’t the vast sums of money changing hands like there is today. The likes of Harry Kane and Haaland are freaks, if a striker gets 20 goals a season it’s announced “ he is world class”

My overriding feeling is one of frustration. Feels like we were 1 good window from really being able to kick on, but as yet we havent really got the players in. I know that outside hte football world we'll never understand, but its so frustrating going into the start of the season still hoping to sign a few players. By the time they are signed and fit and integrated they would have missed 5 games. That's a decent chuck of the season. And the comms from Roy on Olise and Eze are odd. He's not saying 'they aren't leaving' nor 'It would take a British record bid'. He's jsut saying that he hopes they don't go. Full back - starting yet another season with Ward is underwhelming. Especially as Spence is available. Left Wing - Feels like there are tonnes around, CHO, Gray, Leeds have about 3! Having said that. We have a strong base, and with the addition of Lerma that will be stronger still. It also means that we are not relying on Jeff to play CM, which means we can use him in positions that suit him better. We may well start the first game with Jeff and Ayew playing on the wings. Underwhelming, but they are not bad players. Just not exciting. Lets hope that we still manage to pick up Hall, and noted that Gnoto is on strike, that might soften Leeds' stance. If not I'd still take Harrison or Summerville. Or CHO. Realistically we aren't going to get a CF in, but I'm at peace with that. There just aren't really any around. Not at the top level anyway.

Even with our lack of forward firepower I think we’re too good to go down this season. Beyond that where we finish it will depend on injuries and not selling our best players now or in Jan. Parish has been vocal about not being able to compete for the top ten until we have a bigger ground. Which makes me think he won’t be shelling out much more cash atm. I don’t really see much difference between 11th and 15th. You have a few more good match days, a few less panicky moments, but you’ll still lose your best players as they want to progress and you need the cash.

A good summary and very similar to my thinking. Especially the feeling of having ‘started something’ then not seemingly kicking on. I’ve also heard quite a bit about Americans ‘wanting to spend’ but the likes of SP being resistant to this. I understand that and can logically justify why that may be the case but when we need players in certain positions for the starting XI alone and are starting the season looking very weak up top having lost our talisman, you can’t help but feel we’re just at the other end of the spectrum instead.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
