After losing a few of their better players from last years promotion winning side we are basically playing a mid even lower table Championship team .
The fans will be fired up and the team may be early doors . If we had been playing them after half a dozen games or so when others had knocked the stuffing out of them this would be an easy 3 points we really could not be playing them at a worse time .

Im still confident Roy will have prepared us for this one though and I expect us to be top of the league come Saturday night, 4-0

Impressive optimism is being demonstrated on this thread. I hope we haven't all forgotten that we won't have Zaha and Olisé, that our striker options are crap and that our full-backs can be decidedly dodgy, particularly at set pieces. Just saying!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Yep agree with Gary St.Andrews, 2-1 Palace, Schlupp and Eze.

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

It's mad that they've been promoted and so far have actually made a profit in the transfer market! I'm sure they'll spend some money before 1 September but it's too late for Saturday. These opening games against newly promoted teams are so hard to call, but I'm leaning towards the positive camp. 0-1 Edouard (off his backside).

But with my glass half full head on(for a change) we’re pretty good against teams around or below us(yes I know we’re all on 0 at the moment ) we’ve got Eze and Edouard is on a roll, he’s got one on the trot

Heart says 1:2 head says 1:1 & at least one of those goals will come in the new period of time added on for time wasting, so maybe at 98 minutes (ish)

(Quite frankly I do want to see us get something from the game)

They have sold their 4 best players and not replaced them. Also plenty of injuries. Their owners want the club sold. We may not get an easier 3 points all year. Comfortable win for me.

They are nailed on to return to the Championship , they may even break the record for the least points .For all our faults there is not one player at Sheffield utd that would get into our side

In their shoes, Palace would be the last team I’d want opening game. If we play like we did against Lyon, We’ll be too good for them. Ayew will play a blinder and score. Comfortable win.

my old man used to say this about a number of our forwards down the years haha! Glad to see it used elsewhere.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I predict a win, but not a comfortable one as some have suggested. More like a 1-0 because the Blades will be fighting hard to make a good impression on their own ground in front of their own supporters on their return to the PL.

In our favour is the fact that they have lost a couple of key players in Ndiaye and Berge so that'll have an impact.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
