Why is Hodgson going to the media with this? Couldn't it be dealt with behind closed doors? A bit snide.

This is a pity because Guiata has given us good service and was happy at Palace.
Unfortunately, injuries, age and good performances from Johnstone mean that he has lost the certainty of starting. That's football.

It's not easy for second choice keepers, but I don't think that he should through his toys out just yet. I'd have thought that he would still be a valued asset.

In that case, he'll be off and we'll be joining the goalkeeper merry go round.

The current merry go round seems to be the Raya one. Raya -> Arsenal, Turner & Henderson -> Forest, Forest have too many goalkeepers.

Ethan Horvath, who was Luton's No.1 last season, would be the displaced goalkeeper and a clear number 2 for us.

Other clear number 2s: Steffen at City, Timo Horn (free agent), Danny Ward at Leicester, Krul at Norwich.

Luton are apparently about to sign John Ruddy who Kiely worked with at Norwich - could hijack that deal.

There was chat about Soria wanting to leave Getafe. We could always send Guaita back in that direction and chuck in a few million to make it worth their while. Soria would be strong competition for Johnstone though.

Fairly weak pickings unless we go out and poach a current number 1 or look abroad.

Whilst I generally prefer Palace to do things behind closed doors, I like Roy's openness on this. What else is he supposed to say that doesn't involve lying?

I can understand Guaita wanting to leave rather than be no2 at his age, and of course we don't know what conversations have taken place between club and player up to now, but he shouldn't be downing tools.

We would never get a fee for him at his age, and we would want two good goalies for the season, so worth trying to talk him round if possible.

Soria would be an excellent choice with Vicente going the other way... I think Roy’s interview has brought it to a head... a decision shortly....very strange that he didn’t want to stay and fight for it....

There is a case for saying Soria is better than Johnston. If he adapted to the league, he could be better.

They want €12m for Soria, which is his buy out clause. I bet they won’t pay much for having VG back either. I don’t think Palace wanted to spend that much on a GK this summer. This might be why we tried to get the keeper from Germany at the last minute. I’m sure the club can find someone to be a no.2 for a year. One thing is certain, it can’t be Remi Mathews…we’d be in trouble.

For me symptomatic of the current state of football - players believe they hold all the cards..!!

So VG - you were/are a great shot stopper - but commanding of your box and catching is iffy at best..!!

Someone else has come in and at this moment in time has proven that they are better than you..!!

Choice is yours do you a; work on your game or b; throw your toys out of the pram like a petulant child..!!

If you go for b the frailties will always be there.!!

Bottom line grow up..!!

Why would Getafe's number one keeper want to come here to warm the bench?

Your right Soria is on the same level as Johnstone but you need two top keepers in the Prem anyway... look at Arsenal buying Raya to compete with Ramsdale...

The other goalkeeper who would be displaced at Forest is Wayne Hennessey...

Can you imagine?
