Still playing with Schlupp and Edouardo, does not sound very optimistic for the coming season.

My takes from the game. Overall the team look a lot fitter than they did at the start of last season and far more drilled in passing. A good amount of energy and commitment and playing with some intensity. Unlucky not to win and Sevilla come across as quite a dirty team. Many sinical fouls in a friendly.... Eze is a super player and I really hope Parish can wangle some magic to keep him but it'd be hard after this season to keep either of Eze or Olise. Both goals were very good. I think the team looks pretty strong with the one usual issue of Edouard being inept at being useful but at least he ran some... little effort or trickery at controlling the ball to score and 1 gifted header went... to the side. The rest of the team looked good and Lerma wasn't too bad. Clyne looked faster than he did last season(not especially hard but still good.) The only other head scratcher was that Roy has gone back (true to form) of forgetting he has some subs that might need some game time. The team could do with a good striker and I was sad not to see Ahameda play as I thought he deserved some minutes. I think if the team from today is anything to go by, we will at least start the prem strongly. May have to hope for minimal injuries though.
There will probably be subs used against Lyon, though.

Thought we looked excellent at times. One of Edouards better games but just looks clueless when it comes to doing what he's there for, scoring. Whats frightening is that he's the best option for striker.

I mentioned elsewhere that when I see Edouard play I think, surely Mateta is better than that, only to see Mateta play and think surely Edouard is better...and so it goes on in circles!

However, against Lyon i would hope Ahameda and maybe JRS get at least a 30 minutes run out as they are probably the 2 closest to a starting position, or at least an impact sub role. Also Tayo at LB. He seems to be the forgotten man these days. It appears he's not pushed on after a decent breakthrough a couple of seasons ago. We really need the competition so hopefully he's had a good pre-season and is back to his best.

Very happy to see Schluppie in the starting line up in what is one of our strongest current fit eleven. Ive always rated him as one of our more gifted versatile players. A real asset for the club.

He looked promising a couple of years ago but has since done little to suggest he will make it into the first team. Edited by NEILLO (31 Jul 2023 10.52am)

Makes you think what's the harm in chucking one of the kids in. You never know what might happen but I doubt it'll be any worse.
