Serious question. Would you prefer us to still be a yo yo club, with frequent dips into the Championship, the misery of relegation and joy of promotion? Or the slow, steady but fairly predictable situation of mid-table security whilst a quality academy is allowed to grow and flourish and the plans for the development of the ground grind forwards? Don't mistake my post for a criticism of Parish or the overall strategy he has implemented. I think he has done remarkably well given the means at his disposal. What I am saying is that he has now reached the crossroads and the next challenge for him is to figure out how to cross over to the other side, sustain what he had achieved and progress further down that road. Personally I like to think of myself as a realist so yes I am comfortable with our current standing, the existence of our seasonal struggle to remain in that pocket of teams under the glass ceiling but above the relegation trap door - in terms of this being our most successful prolonged period in living memory (perhaps ever) its a testament to prudent management & ownership of the assets available, obviously you can look at individual instances where a better outcome would have been hoped for but overall I think they have done a damn good job. There is a lot to be said for remaining in the PL, attracting top teams to SP almost every week & not getting ourselves our arsenals regularly handed to us on a plate. If we are to attract better financing then we are absolutely where we need to be, in the top flight with only marginal risk of relegation - the big problem being that breaking through that glass ceiling without mortgaging the farm & maintaining it is so phenomenally expensive & with all of our attractions there are other clubs out there to buy that are the only big club in their town or city which provides a much easier success story to be a local hero than camped in South London with a plethora of salubrious neighbours across the Thames & a stadium capacity of 25,000 where people have been talking about developing or moving for as long as I can remember. So to answer the question - I like where we are & support doing what we are doing to improve our lot without flirting with the risk of going bust.

I can almost taste the meltdown on here and Twitter if we did sell him, I think Lanzo would be filling his pockets with rocks and walking into the sea

Given the roundabout journey that Eze has taken, I hope he takes into consideration that its our shop window that has given him the exposure, the chance to shine, the international career that he seems to be on the verge of & considers that a period of consolidation is perhaps in order before he takes the next step. A full injury free season against the best that the PL has to offer with us (as he will almost certainly be one of the first names on the team sheet virtually every week) would be a very sensible strategy to consider & then see how things look.

To think, there's me stupidly thinking that when Harris & Blitzer came onboard, they 'invested' $50m each that was 'ringfenced' (Parish's words, not mine), for a new stand. Where has it gone?
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

If Eze dies not sign a new deal, I can see us selling in January (if save) as he would have 18months left. If not January definitely next Summer, unfortunately

I had glanced at something suggesting he’d rejected a new contract. Wilf gone, Olise and Marc possibly leaving and now Ebz too, only a single player signed, it’s all starting to look a bit grim. Perhaps we’re regressing once more.
These are the inevitable day-to-day click-bait stories that identify every quality player at the smaller PL clubs and tries to find a home for them at a Big club. I would be surprised if more than one of our star assets were to leave in this window (I exclude Wilf because his contract was up in any case). Indeed we may hold on to all of them. IMO Parish and Hodgson have deliberately targetted a top 10 finish this season as a message to the squad that we are looking to move up (not down or stay still). I still expect us to sign a couple of players before the window closes.

Reported he has turned down a new contract offer from Palace. Reason to be worried or more rubbish from the press? Don’t worry, more rubbish from the press. He has 3 years left, they probably haven’t even discussed a contract extension yet. I’m starting to think the Olise rumours are also lazy journalism.

It was indeed very gloomy from me Doombear but purposefully so, I think a new signing or two would cheer me up, just very little doing that for me atm! I am also inclined to believe and of course hoping with all my might that we do not lose another or many of our top players. I was not intending to steal any limelight from you I promise, I just like to wallow in self pity, anxiety and anger occasionally when it comes to Palace
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
