Unnecessary foreign tours, loss of key players, crop of injuries from a light squad.

It's the Palace close season, really it did for Vieira.

You need to produce your best team fresh prepared to go on the first day of the season.

Like preparing a race-horse for the Derby, not 'they shoot horses don't they'.

That was about a dance marathon and not about horses at all, however your comparison is very astute and it made me chuckle.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Hodgson said Richards was due to play in this game but pulled out of the game late owing to an injury.
I like Richards and note some have opined that we could cope without Guehi or Anderson as he would be a good replacement.
I don’t doubt that he has the ability but have real concerns how many games he would complete over the course of a season.
He would not be a good replacement if he’s frequently injured.

The other thing to note from the game is the bad tackle on Hughes which led to him being substituted.
Even the usually calm Ward reacted to it and it wouldn’t surprise me if Hughes was out for a period of time.

Yes it's a real shame. I mentioned it on another thread last week. Frustrating for him that any positive momentum he builds from good performances always seems to be curtailed by injury.

From what we have seen of Richards, he does possess a lot of ability. These injuries , which have been frequent are a real worry though because in many if not most cases they occur out of game time. The worry being is his physical frame just not up to it.

How do you achieve this without playing proper warm up games whether here or abroad?

Agree, however, i suspect we will try and muddle through another season without left and right back reinforcements.
Clearly up top is the priority - can't believe they haven't got a long list of potential Wilf replacements. We've had 3 years to prepare for his departure.

... and that's just if we don't lose any of our star players, otherwise we will have other places to fill on top of that.
