Very annoyed that the team that we built over the last 2 years will reportedly by sold off. Zaha all but gone. Olise to Chelsea , Decoure to Liverpool, Andersen to Tottenham, Guehi to Tottenham or Newcastle, Guaita to Getafe, Eze to Liverpool. Depressed Jesus I suspect we will have a team come the fist game. And I suspect most if not all of those players will be in it.

Super rich club make an offer. We set ludicrous price or do one. They shrug and offer that price... Player who was not born in Selhurst Park, loving life on £35k a week. Loves it even more on £135 per week and, possibly, European football. What do you suggest the club needs to do to manifest greater ambition and keep these players? We do OK, but the clubs pillaging have eye watering funds to spare. Edited by silvertop (24 Jul 2023 11.15am)

This is all part of the merry-go-round of football, I'm afraid. Reading fans were gutted that we stole (as they see it) one of the best young players they've had for years (Olisé). But we are a bigger fish than they are. Apart from a very small number of exceptions, footballers have no loyalty to a club and will therefore follow the lucre.

According to Darren Ambrose and his Palace sources there is not a buy out clause Originally posted by mars
If Olise has a buy out clause he’ll be a certain goner when fit and there’s nothing Palace can do about it. We can probably afford to let one of the centre backs go as well as Doucoure and if the money is wisely re invested we should be fine.

With Wilf gone and possibly Olise too, if we were to lose any more i can see us going full Royball again next season. Perhaps the board knew this would happen which is why they appointed Roy. We are now being linked with journeymen ie Evans and Gray which is a total reversal of the last two seasons. Have the new stand ringfenced funds been withdrawn and we are now selling players to fund it? Its just a hunch.

Haven't they offered him less than what we (reportedly) did? Nothing more than a genuine question from me, I just believed that to be true and find it intriguing. Amongst all the rumours it also looks true to me. Probably because of his desire to play Champions League football. How it will seem to him when he isn't, which will be most, if not all, of the time, remains to be seen. How he, his wife and his family settle in Turkey is also unknown. He is obviously older and more settled now but he didn't adjust too well the last time he moved away. Wilf's heart is at Selhurst and I bet he is very conflicted. Until he actually signs I don't believe anything for sure and even after he does not that he won't be back.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

[Link] You have to scroll down & i agree with you he could very well return, sooner than he'd hoped for, Jan on loan?

We'll have a team, but not sure how good a one. If we lose say Guehi and Olise and don't replace them then the squad looks like it's in for a relegation battle. We never seem to get players in early, seeming to not worry about integrating new players into the squad during pre season training but waiting until a day or two before the window shuts and that often ends in 'not being able to get our targets across the line'. I'm probably being pessimistic, but it's starting to feel that the reason Roy was brought in was to be a steady hand on a season with more significant outs than ins. We don't have a pot to p*** in and will be looking for freebies/low cost and promising youngsters from Ireland and the lower leagues. Youngsters who will be loaned out to Division 1 scarcely play and then leave in 2-3 years time.

Galatasaray offer a lot of money, top of (their) table football and ECL. We offer mid table, at best, in a league he is losing touch with. Don't judge too harshly. Can't help thinking that he doesn't know much about Turkey....but hey, good luck to him. We have plenty of wages money all of a sudden.....It's all about who we bring in and who we can keep.

Given they are only in qualifying a tad risky but I suppose there is some salvageable nobility there too. On the second, I have some concerns over this which is why the move seems bizarre. I have been led to believe (which may be entirely untrue) that racism towards black players in the Turkish League has been slightly more prevalent and extreme than it is over here, let alone when you have an entire South London fanbase supporting you in games too. Unless Wilf has a diagnosable addiction to Doner Meat and Chips, or likes a head massage with his haircuts, I can't see too much attraction for him beyond the chance of some silverware in a z league and a very brief taste of European football. Perhaps he had just set his heart on a move away and this greyed his analysis of any offer available?
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Pretty much every European league has much worse racism then we do, so that's probably much of a muchness. Looking at the positives:
