If he is all we can afford I would take him. He's a good journeyman striker and will work hard for the team.

Of course he's not my first choice but we don't know what the transfer budget is.

He’s not good enough. Both Edouard and Mateta are potentially better but regrettably neither has ever had a regular starting place to prove their worth.

He is better than both Edouard and Mateta, and has a decent record in the English league, which neither E or M have, i am not saying he is brilliant but tell me a better player to buy for 12/15m with a record of scoring in the Premier or Championship who is under 30.

Surely this cannot be true, championship striker at best. Mateta is better than this guy.
Also looking at Demari Grey, another waster.
If we keep the back 4 ( although Mitchell, Ward & Clyne could be upgraded)& the current midfield, the team is half decent.
The front line is awful.
Eduoard not really proven himself.
Supposedly Mateta wants to leave.
Olise is injured.
Zaha is not a Palace player.
Ayew should take the contract in Saudi if true.

What is going on. Is this due to Textor and over extending on the 4 clubs if the reports are true.

I thought when we signed Lerma Palace would be challenging for the top 10 this season.

With 4 weeks to go I will take survival again.

When Everton are signing players like Young & Evans you know Clubs are also hard up for money though!

Surprised it’s taken this long for someone to link him to Palace. Adams is half decent, whether he would improve Palace, is always difficult to know, as what we have should be doing better on past records. Would he do better? As this is common knowledge, this is most likely another case of someone doing the transfer window jigsaw puzzle and he might fit.

He might not be the most exciting prospect but he's averaged a goal every 5 games for a poor Southampton team. I'd have said Redmond was a better option but Adams scores nearly twice as many.

27 years old,a one in four goal scoring record,a decent sub.

One in five for saints, I’m not keen, but any striker with a better record than that in any top flight football would be out of our price range and heading elsewhere. I think fans need to except we’re not going to be signing a prolific goalscorer, we can’t afford one

Adams' record in both leagues is underwhelming (34 in 116 for Birmingham and 25 in 123 for Southampton). His stats are no better than Edouard's. As Mars said one problem with both Edouard and Mateta is that neither has had a decent run in the team (last season Mateta had just 8 starts but 23 sub appearances. Edouard fared better with 21 starts and 15 sub appearances - both include cup games). The other problem with Edouard, of course, is he's lazy and it will be interesting to see whether Hodgson can get him to work harder in the coming season. As for Mateta, it seems to me that Hodgson isn't a fan and it will be no surprise if he's sold this window (If anyone will buy him that is). If Zaha does re-sign then I would expect him to be playing centrally more often unless Edouard ups his game (which I think he is capable of).

As for the 12/15m, we can spend it better elsewhere (assuming we've got it to spend)

Why do they need to come from the PL or Championship?

It’s pretty obvious you can’t find a striker in the PL for cheap money but conversely, just because Adams played in the PL doesn’t mean he is a decent player as our own two strikers have so adequately proven.

I would stay well clear of Adams and look to the European or South American leagues, perhaps even Japan/Korea. It just needs Dougie to get his ass out of Scotland and Ireland and casting his eye a bit further afield.

And to be fair his goalscoring record is about the same as Zaha's and is better than Eze's. He wouldn't be my first choice but as you say for what we can afford ...
