Ive known quite a few companies who, when someone has come up through the ranks / spent quite a few years in one environment I guess what I am saying is that although Paddy has his coaching badges, has been U18 manager, under 21 Manager & is no doubt learning on the job under Roy / Ray at a certain point in time it may be sensible for him to either leave the club for his first managerial position or transfer to another one of the Eagle football clubs in the group to establish himself as a Manager in that environment. Whether he returns couple seasons later / further down the road obviously remains to be seen but I feel its kinda like a Steven Gerrard thing where if one day he becomes Liverpool manager, with his background with the club no one will be surprised.

What does that have to do with his ability to manage in the Premier League Yeah I of course love our club and I do actually think the way it is run is much preferable to many other models. You have to balance this with business and footballing sense however and again the assertion that we are some sort of complete unicorn, managed through some sort of mystic, Mormon-esque community that can nurture former players into PL managers ready to compete with the best in the world on an inferior budget is just a bit too out there for me.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I think Paddy has been put in the position of understudy to Roy. To be sure I wouldn't be surprised to see him step into the hotseat for the 24/25 season.

My gut says its madness to even think it. But, being pragmatic for a moment. This isn't a Lampard/Gerrard situation, he's had a youth gig, now a 1st team assistant. He's learning his trade under the most experienced manager in world football. That's not a bad place to start. There are other managers (e.g. Arteta) to come straight in to a PL job and do well (after learning under a great). Parish is risk adverse, he's not going to risk it all if there isn't a general agreement that he's ready etc. For his faults, with FdB and Vieria, Parish has shown that he's brave enough to make a change if needed. So if Paddy is struggling, Parish wont let him take us down

I think it is Roys job not to train him up, but to observe Paddy, and give an honest report to Parish in the new year whether he is good enough to be No1, whatever your opinion of Roy i dont think anyone can doubt his honesty.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

Watching the first training session the camera, made a lot of Paddy, with Roy, obviously working closely together, so the step up for Paddy is real, and he will have hands on from here on.

What I thought was interesting was that in the games at the end of last season, often around the 60 minute mark, Roy, Ray & Paddy would often go into a bit of a huddle, have a few minutes chat about what was going on, what to do next - obviously as the Manager only Roy could make the ultimate decision but it was good to see them at least discussing the options. (Maybe they were just having a chat about where to go for a beer after the game, but it didnt look like it) Originally posted by Putitout
