The biggest plus in the Hughes column was that he ran around a lot at a time when the team wasn't doing it. In the nicest way possible, a League 2 player could have won man of the match a few times for us on the basis of just charging around the place and looking interested. He's a decent enough player, but his passing range and accuracy isn't anywhere near a top 10 Premier League player. Based on last year Lerma's shots per game is 4x Hughes, his aerial duels won is 9x, his passing accuracy is 2pp better, and Lerma gets a yellow every 500 minutes when Hughes gets one every 200 minutes (charging around and lunging in - not very accurately). Hughes is a good Championship starter, and a low/mid-table Premier League squad player. Lerma will, and should, be first pick.

I’m convinced we will play 4-2-3-1 with Lerma and Doucoure controlling the midfield. Eze will have a central free role and the front 3 will be Olise-striker?- Wilf/new. That’s potentially a top 10 team but we need more backup and we need a quality striker.

Hughes is a very good back up/ sub. So far he seems to manage that role very well.

Edited by dreamwaverider (07 Jul 2023 6.19pm) The thousands he gets deposited in his bank account each week should be enough to motivate him to run about a bit and to learn how to pass the ball two yards to a team mate's feet!

I could accept his poor passing and positional sense if he would just bang it in the net a lot more often. He can do it, just needs to be often!!

Think Lerma might need a new partner, click-bait are now saying L'pool want to sign Doucoure because they will lose Fabinho to Saudi . . . [Link]
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Click bait also saying they want Kalvin Phillips so hopefully he is their no 1 target.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
