GnR are old. Axel is 61. His voice is gone and the mix on TV was awful, which didn't help.
Bands get criticized for using tapes to enhance their performance but get hammered when they don't and fail to sound like the records.
The issue is that lots of music is produced using lots of studio tech, so sounding like the record is next to impossible.

Ageing vocal cords and fingers don't' help, and bands that should have retired are still playing because the income from record sales is a fraction of what it once was.

Personally, I like GnR on record for the most part but as with most live performances, at my age, I find them rather dull and slightly ridiculous.
I have been a rock fan since I was 8 years old but watching people playing their guitars and posturing on stage is rather passé I feel.

Van Halen in 1980. That was the zenith of entertaining rock performances for me. Kiss do a good show, albeit almost the same one for 50 years, but on the whole, I'm usually looking at my watch before the encore for most gigs.

I don't go to many these days. I'd rater chill at home.

Most probably feel the same Hrolf. Paying a fortune to mostly watch a band on a big screen when you've already seen them several times before isn't enticing.
Also I find the audience annoying now when they insist on holding up their phones for the entire show and can't go more than 5 minutes without a round of rubbish lager.
And as I get older the prospect of standing in the middle of a Knebworth type crowd and realising a trip to the Gents is about an hour's round trip is less appealing.

I dunno. these days I think the crowd are more interested in getting their face on the big screen by wearing outlandish costumes, or posting photos of themselves on facefvck, with adjectives such as "Historic event" or "once in a lifetime". Nostalgia is all fvcked-up with these young 'uns going to gigs.
All too sanitised.

Seemingly gone are the good old days of pissing in a glass bottle because you couldn't get to the toilet, then throwing it at whoever was on stage. Girls getting on camera by getting their tlt5 oot.

Many US rock bands of the 70s and 80s were influenced by British rockers. What US bands had was showbiz.
I'd still put the first Van Halen's album up there with anything else.

I like Zeppelin, but they were heavily dependent on earlier blues artists for their style. Even their most famous song, 'Whole Lotta Love' was pinched from The Small Faces 'You Need Loving'.

Although Ozzy's Sabbath have influenced a thousand metal bands, I actually think that 'Heaven and Hell' was their best.

AC/DC have made the same album 18 times. They were never the quite same after Bon Scott drank himself to death.

Purple made some genre defining songs but were inconsistent. They could never write an album full of hits.

I preferred The Sweet. Never taken seriously because of their image and origins, never sold many albums, but had a great songwriting team for their hits and a solid supply of their own songs to fill the LPs.

Lizzy's albums were badly produced and that's a shame because Phil Lynnot was very underrated. Sadly, his addiction got the better of him too.

Cream did too little but managed some classics in their short time. There's something about Clapton that gets on my tits though. Perhaps it's his ridiculously inflated reputation as a guitarist. The greatest guitar player? I don't think so. There are people in Nashville who can do what he does asleep.

I like them all, on my Airplay list. Watching them live? I think I'm over it, especially when they are 70+ years old.

It’s strange watching live music, I sat and watched the whole of the arctic monkeys Friday night and while I’ve always liked a couple of their songs I’ve never been a fan, most of it is a ‘bleedin’ row’ as my old father in law puts it. BUT I find Alex Turner mesmerising and love his voice. Sometimes it’s just all about the show and the crowd

Same with guns n roses and AC/DC, never been my kind of music, but just mesmerising to watch sometimes. Especially Thunderstruck, as I said not my thing really, but this song is up there with my all time favourites and Brian Johnson is such a great front man

I think this year’s lineup is incredibly poor. Turned off Artic Monkeys after 15 minutes as they were just soooo boring (I’ve got most of their albums but do still think they are vastly overrated). I also didn’t watch much of Christine and the Queens (not even him having his t1ts out made me want to watch). The Foo Fighters were ok.

I enjoyed a band called Las Bitchos. They’re a four piece all girl instrumental band who play a fusion of Latino, rock reggae and every other musical genre.
I will also download another 4 piece girl band called The Big Moon. Got a couple of their albums and they are really good!
