Ultimately it's a question of:
1. Finances and
2. Priorities
in that order.

Having spent more than £120m since Hodgson's first departure, the coffers may not be looking that promising.

Re the RB position it may simply be that we would rather spend any money we have elsewhere (presumably up top or possibly LB).

I get the feeling we might be selling someone. But I guess we'll see. I think, possibly, we could potentially cover Guehi if we sold him. Obviously a big loss but he could be 50+ mil. We'll have Richards, Balmer perhaps O'Brien to come in. Presumably not Ferguson.

Makes a lot of sense. We still need dynamis young overlapping wingbacks though. Whether we're getting Potter or the Roy, Ray and Padfy show, hopefully by the end of June we'll see real movement on signings

Fully agree ! Both Clyne & Ward will further struggle to play out full 90.Just age & stamina taking its toll - plus younger fitter opponents !

Also yes yes yes we need cross over - confident defenders whom have confidence in opponents box

Or could they go out on loans for alternative income ?

Of course they will all re-sign ! Always the nice, cheap option.

If true this shows that we aren't signing a new right back.

The only potential exception might be that arsenal youngster that come in an player a game as a trialist. On the basis that he might be the answer, but at least not for a while.

You might want to take a seat. I'm afraid I've got some bad news...

Great day to be Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka. That's two piss easy games in the bag for them next year.

I would keep Ward but the other 2 can jog on. Freedman is useless as DOF. If this decision is true it doesnt fill me with confidence for the summer transfer window.

Ferguson could have been a good player was decent at West Brom. It is a shame the injuries he was a very versatile player could play anywhere in defence could have solved the RB issue. Sad story but he won't get extended unless he signs a pay as you play contract for next season. It will be hard for him to get a club as well due to injury history.

We need to keep experienced players in the team, Southampton went all in on young players and look how that turned out.
Ward and Clyne are both decent RBs, tomkins can cover when needed + that goal against the sea pigeons imo.

We do need a new right back but maybe the time isn't right, think we do need an upgrade on LB more.

RB yes what do you think of Adaramola? Looks a decent player could challenge Mitchell for the LB spot.

Offering another contract to Tomkins is crazy…..he is so slow now. Regrettably the 3 weeks he is fit enough to play every season do not coincide with when he is needed.

I can understand offering a contract to Ward or Clyne but not both.

This news would seem to confirm that there is little money available this summer.

And if that is indeed the case, then I can see Roy and Ray being given another year.

Personally, I thought he did ok when called upon.

When Richards is fit Tompkins will be 4th choice CB so good cover for next season imo. Better that than a younger player who gets frustrated at lack of game time.

i presume you didn't attend the Boxing day game v Fulham then?

First start of the season got booked for a stupid foul near the oppositions penalty area and then sent off after 60 minutes for an 'alleged' elbow because he couldn't be bothered to track his runner.
He has played less than 10 games in all competitions per season for each of the last 3 seasons and his fitness record is shocking.
He is on big wages too.
I'd prefer to give O'Brien the opportunity, if Tomkins is to be considered 4th choice.
