It was expected that the Conservative Party would suffer significant losses and my thoughts go out to all the councillors who lost their seats.
Exceedingly disappointed but far from despondent.
All 3 Conservative candidates were elected in my ward !!

It is a 'Barometer' and the focus of the Government is to deliver on its pledges. All is certainly NOT lost, there is time to engineer a recovery and in doing so we will defeat Labour at the General Election. At this moment in time a Conservative victory looks highly improbable but I live in hope.

Polling expert Sir John Curtice has predicted that Labour would not be able to win a majority in the next general election based on the local election results.

He predicted that Labour would win 312 seats if the nation voted the same way it had voted in the local elections, meaning it would be 14 short of an overall majority.

This would lead to a hung parliament, and Labour would likely have to form a minority administration or enter into an agreement with other parties under this scenario.

But it is, not that it is making any difference.

If you are a young person less likely to vote conservative and turn up with photo id such a rail or NHS card, you cannot vote.

If you are 60+ typical tory voter, with your oyster card etc. you can.

We'll see how many were turned away in due course, despite being registered to vote.

The number of people rejected will be far higher than the actual instances of voter fraud, only 9 since 2018.

There never was a problem, and who is to say photo-id fraud cannot happen anyway.

Do you have a qualification in talking out of your arse, or are you self-taught?

Firstly a 60+ person with an Oyster card is more likely to be a poor Labour voter forced to slum it on public transport whereas a Tory voter in that age category is likely to have a chauffeur-driven limo, and no need for a driving licence.

And as for the young, as cryst has explained, they've had 6 months to sort out their FREE ID. Please don't tell me they are used to voting without ID, because they won't be. They are young and therefore new to voting. All young people who look under 25 are used to producing ID when they buy their booze and fags. They don't give it a second thought. Are you seriously saying that the young, who 80 years ago will have been facing German tanks and just over 100 years ago German shells and machine guns, are now so hopeless that they can't sort out a minor admin problem with 6 months to think about it? Patronising or what? And incidentally, an NHS card is no use as ID in any case because it doesn't carry a photo.

Whilst these results will obviously not be repeated at the next GE they do shine a little light on the mood. What is shown is unsurprising.

When voters are hacked off with the Tories, primarily because of Johnson and Truss and not Sunak, but cannot stomach Labour, who will they turn to?

The LibDems have done well, and will do better at a GE, in my opinion. I think we could well see them holding the balance of power. and then having to form a coalition.

What will their terms be? Guess what I hope they will be! Who, of the two major parties will be willing to agree to such terms? If neither would that cause splits so that a government can be formed by a grand coalition?

All speculation I know but PR and reentry into the EU are appearing on the horizon.

Labour on course for an election win without being particularly inspiring and deficient in policies.

Starmer must grasp the nettle, if power is not transformational then there isn't much point.

1. Bloke forgets his passport outraged he couldn't vote. Err polling stations are local and should be within walking distance could you not go home and get it. Yes I know it's annoying but sometimes we forget things and have to go back.

2. Bloke was upset as he couldn't use his NHS id badge. I've got a Tufty Club membership badge can I use that?

Funny thing at my polling station…a bloke got refused a vote as he brought along his shotgun licence (which I would have thought would be acceptable but it wasn’ t on the list). I suggested he should return with his shotgun to add a bit of emphasis to his argument…

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

Yes hilarious that such an idiot (in that he doesn't think to check the list of acceptable ID) is allowed to own a gun.

There will, of course, have been a number of people deliberately failing the acceptability test just so they can be angry on Twitter about it...or more likely pretending that they failed it.

It has always seem stupid to me that somebody would vote against their local council just because they hate the government. Judge the council not the government.

So as you have now accepted that voters can behave stupidly perhaps it would be a good time to reflect on the wisdom of allowing them to decide on something as important as Brexit.

And the wisdom of letting these brainless oiks decide on who should be in parliament. These decisions should be left to clever people like MPs.
