When we were 3-0 down I left. As I was in the carpark I heard a cheer. I thought we'd scored as it was loud and thought - just my luck. Always thought it was 3-1. Anyway, was watching Premier League Gold or some such and the game was on - the cheers were ironic - 4-0. Didn't know for maybe twenty years as I was repressing that and several other Palace memories. Was that the one where we were the away team and we all got soaked standing on the holmesdale ‘away end’ ?

I believe it was a big part of our relegation but my memory is fading. It has to be late nineties I would think. Somebody will tell us in a minute.

Left early twice , And I have no shame in admitting I left at half time when it was palace 0-4 Sunderland
“This is a crisis, a large crisis.... in fact if you have a moment, it’s a 12 storey crisis, magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24 hour portage , and an enormous sign on the roof saying “This , is a large crisis” - Edmund Blackadder |

Just about the only 2 saving grace(s) from that game were that it didn't get any worse after half time & it helped Sam reinforce his position with the board that we needed some new players. (I had better look up the plural for grace) Originally posted by SwordFish

I once left early without knowing it. The ref blew for fulltime so we left. The ref realised he had blown 5 mins early and brought the players back out. We onlyfound out the were still playing when we turned on the car radio. Edited by Apollofuzz (07 Apr 2023 1.10pm)

I can remember leaving early a few times when Dad took me in the late 50s/early 60s. If he thought we looked unlikely to score again (or at all!) we'd make a run for the bus back to Wallington to beat the rush. If the game was precariously balanced we'd make our way from our spot on the Holmesdale terrace and stand atop the old wooden steps down to the exit gate so as not to miss anything. As soon as the ref blew we could scamper down the steps to be one of the first out of the ground. Ah, fond memories of ye olde Selhurst Park.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Proud to say I have never left a palace game early. Although I was away on a business trip in Lisbon in February and went to sporting Lisbon vs Porto..I was freezing and wanted to go back to the hotel and left on 93 mins...I missed two goals and the best part of the game!
