A pragmatic decision for all the good reasons outlined above. I wonder if Jordan cracked a smile.

Don't forget that we need a squad of 25 not just 11 first teamers

A supporter whom I engaged in conversation last night was incandescent with rage that Ayew was presented with a new 1 year deal.

He asserted that he thought the days of offering contracts to players in their 30s, well-past their best-by date were over.He added that Ayew is not a striker (As his goal return confirms), he is not a winger, he is not a midfielder either offensively or defensively etc etc and his falling to the ground is not penalised by referees any more as they permit more contact. He also asserted that no Championship team would yearn for his services !

In short he doesn't rate Ayew !!! With my ears stinging from his diatribe I informed him that Ayew will probably score and get 'Man of the Match' against Leicester now that he has has lacerated him !!!

Ayew runs in circles & goes nowhere & Schlupp apart from the odd attack does not run at all.
Also Ayew cannot hit a barn door at 5 yards out & is supposed to be a forward,
Let’s hope today I am proved wrong, although personally I hope both are not in the starting 11.
These 2 are championship players, I would rather we blood the youth even if everybody seems to think they are not good enough either for the Prem.
Rant over, let’s get behind the team for the next 5 home games whether it is dismal Roy ball or not.

Not the most exciting (re)signings!

Unfortunately we have become a rather unexciting club. If we do go down this calibre of player will likely stay and be needed, unlike the "big time Charlies' (quoting South Norwood Hill) who will jump ship.

I just read in the Athletic that Schlupp and Ayew have signed new 1 year deals. That should cheer the fans up.

We are planning for the Championship and these two will fill up the bench.

The new manager might not rate Ayew and Schlupp one iota and they will be reduced to 'Fringe' players.

Indeed. I was thinking of it from the player's point of view, they ae unlikely to get a move to another PL club, particularly given their age and current salaries. It seems the best "cover all corners" solution for all parties involved.

In Praise Of Schlupp & Ayew

Turn up in style
Head to toe Primark
Edouard shoots
Wide of the mark
Ray barks
Move up move up
Jeffrey Schlupp
A twist and a trick
Over to Jordan Ayew
A swivel and a flick
Back of the net
Who's the best of Selhurst Park
Take your pick

They have both served us very well, good business, will be important back ups next year in a squad of 25, some others of this years squad will go, we will have several other places for new recruits

I would suggest that in the case of Ayew this might not meet with much approval !
