if we can get a couple of decent results in our first few remaining fixtures that would certainly help to encourage progress leaning towards the PL group -

I suspect such forward planning would contain two lists, one for the PL and another for the Championship with possible overlaps.

I've noticed that there are a lot of transfer rumours about Guehi. With our track record, he'll leave and we'll believe we're fine without bothering to replace him.

You missed the part of our track record where we waste the money we receive for him in any case.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Recent evidence suggests the owners won't start to think about it until 1st June. We'll likely end up appointing someone after the players have returned for pre-season, make a couple of signings, still look drastically short in early August, scramble in the last couple of weeks and then start the season with two or three positions not addressed whilst the new signings are yet to get up to speed.

I'd love to see us be proactive but it'd buck the trend of the last .... 10 years?

Personally I don't envisage this scenario as I believe a new manager will be in situ earlier than perhaps many had expected and we won't be dilatory in the transfer market.

Surely no manager will take the job until we know what division we will be in next season

I am in total agreement.

Once our fate is sealed I just have the feeling that a manager will be in situ without too much delay unlike the situation when Mr Hodgson announced his departure.

Preseason doesn't matter the club would have planned it out already Palace tend to do it around Jan time (Big Sam confirmed this he wasn't happy he had no input it's about $$$ not what is required)

Not sure why people keep going on about plans if we go down that is silly you dont plan for that in the position we are currently in.

Too many people thinking negative you do not think like this is in sports/business otherwise you have given up already.

New manager was going to be very tough anyway who really wants to come to Palace not many which is why it takes so long and the club is run by amateur SP after all this time still in charge sums it up we should have moved on from him plus all the subpar staff which are not up to this level being handed jobs because of ties to the club (This is not how you run a business but for SP he is making a lot of money so it's working for him)

Another issue is we have done nothing to training facilities for a long time they really are not up to Prem standard. (Pardew even said this and did some changes but it's still far away from being good enough)

Transfer funds I expect plenty will be available you can tell they was saving them as was the case before to go on big spend (will it be good players who knows the scouting at the club is awful which is why recruitment is so poor or takes very long time)

SP - "Well Colin, welcome back. What is it, 4 stints with us now? Anyway, as you know there's never a dull moment round here; if I'm not at the hair dresser or getting measured up for a new suit, it's either a push for Europe or a relegation battle. And this is where you come in, to bring some stability to the club."
Colin - "Thanks Steve, I've identified a few players that fit the bill and we'll be a mid table club quicker than you can say "Tony Pulis". Their acquisition will come inside the transfer budget you mentioned at interview."
SP "What transfer budget? I said we can look forward to a few loans and push for Europe from there."
Colin - "Bye Steve, best of luck."

We haven't bought every under 18 player in Scotland or Ireland on undisclosed fees yet. There's plenty more to do.

And I mentioned 'big money players on big contracts going to top 6 clubs', exactly where ??
And as for 'lots of hungry players up for a chance of life in the PL with Palace', I take it you have missed the complete reluctance of Parish to put his hand in his pocket to properly back the manager this season and then sack him !!
My point, which is not difficult to deduce, was that due to the fact that we are now in a proper relegation battle and not comfortably in mid-table like sides with which we should be at least be on a par, Fulham, Brentford for example, we cannot plan ahead !!
I take it you are one of the recent, new premiership fans who think Parish is wonderful etc.

Vieira had £120m spent on players, more than any other manager in our history, but all he managed to do was reverse the progress of the players. That’s not Parish’s fault Vieira and his coaching team weren’t good enough.

They've been replaced by people already here plus Roy and Ray, so that should work.

Alfredo Morelos anyone? It's probably his agent talking up a fee for himself...
