Soon as I saw the Leeds comment, my immediate thought was that Vieira must have been so disillusioned with the transfer windows and not being supported that he considering going elsewhere. Originally posted by Midlands Eagle
You forgot to add the word "allegedly" onto the end of your post as I doubt whether that is true as I feel that is just the Palace hierarchy trying to chuck dirt around to justify their decision. The same Parish mouthpiece also said that Vieira wanted to apply for the vacant Leeds job which if true makes one wonder why anyone would want to leave our mid table club for one in danger of relegation. If true Vieira must have had serious misgivings about Parish and Palace

Are there any cases of chairmen admitting they were wrong and re-instating? Hardly given their normal ego-mania, but you never know.

As always, we will never know the full details, and what goes on in the back ground.

My message would be - Many thanks for last season, the best football that I have ever seen from a Palace side (against top class opposition) Best of luck in the future, except of course when you bring another team to Selhurst Park -

Some of Vieria's 'achievements' don't belong to him any more than one or two of his 'failures'. Vieria didn't sign (or 'fail' to sign) any players, Freedman does that. Like most modern clubs (including us in 2016) we ended up in the FA Cup semi-final through the semi-lottery of how hard other teams try, the teams they (and we) put out, and who we draw. A cup run happens almost by accident these days and isn't the plus point for a manager it once was. Vieira did, however, handle a very sizable and fairly dangerous period of radical change in our squad, staff and style, and did a very good job of it too. If he'd have left in the summer I think his stock would've been quite high, even with a slightly flat second half to last season. I can't help but feel that perhaps a run of poor (very, in this case) form has been mistaken for a terminal decline necessitating drastic action, and that, much like Pardew, Vieria was unlucky to be sacked mid-season and post-window. I could understand it if the club decide to part ways in the summer, but that would have been more of a mutual thing (or seen that way), and left less of a stain on Vieria's CV than being given a vote of no-confidence ahead of a relegation battle run-in. I don't think he deserved that. Someone will come in and keep us up (hopefully) and then be lauded as a saviour, as Allardyce was, when the team have never been in the relegation zone and probably would have stuck a few results together without a dugout-reshuffle. In that event, Vieria will be seen as having failed at Palace, which I don't think is accurate. Whether Vieria was the right man long-term is another matter, but sacking him now seems harsh. He seemed to carry himself quite well, and I never cared much that his post-match comments went around in circles a bit - he should not be telling the world the things he says in the changing room anyway - and he never fell into the trap of getting frustrated that his players were not as good as he once was. I won't miss him ultimately, but I certainly have no dislike towards him.

Thank you Pat! The football last season at times was splendid. It was nice to hear other fans constantly applauding our team, style of play and highlighting specific players who they like. I enjoyed the kudos you gave us as a fan/supporter and I for one enjoyed the cup run and the feeling of enjoying going to selhurst and watching fluid football!

I would very much like to hear his side of the story but I fear he had to agree to a NDA as a condition of his pay-off. I expect it will be a year or so before the full story emerges. However, if Parish decides to have a press conference on the matter I hope he lets Vieira respond but have a feeling he daren't risk ridicule by doing so. Vieira deserves to put his side, unless of course, some of the unconfirmed rumours about him prove to be true.

Yer, did great, spent our money, took a large pay off, give all the players no fitness or confidence, played players out of position, took us on a winless two and a half month journey spiraling towards relegation, well done, hope we get another like him. It’s a pity you can’t see any good in what he did bring to Selhurst Possibly you will be the first to attack the new manager regardless who it is you find it hard to see a millimeter of good in anything Hats off to PV got us to Wembley , turned our game into an entertaining format ( yes yes Lanzo we are 12th ) Whilst having two duff strikers & loans young ones in Jan Hope he proves Lanzo wrong at some point
