Jeff Schlupp should not be anywhere near a premier league squad. For every 1 positive he has 100 negatives.

When we lose the ball it takes a good 5 seconds for him to commence his defensive duties, by which time the team in transition is at our back 4. Even when he does, it's a light jog. For how ineffective he is in attack, his lack of work rate in defence does my head in. He rarely beats a man, rarely puts a good delivery in, rarely wins the ball back, rarely gets a shot on target, rarely prevents a goal by tracking a runner and making a last ditch tackle/interception - I just don't see what he offers above and beyond a standard Championship player. How many teams in this league do people genuinely think he would start in, other than ours?

Bah, this is a results business, yet Jeff seems to get away with more sympathy from managers than most. Frankly he should be released first chance because he's not very good at whatever he's supposed to be doing at any given moment. How he got the nod over Hughes, in what is Hughes' specialist position, is a complete mystery. My doubts about Vieira began at this point.

I saw Schlupp wasn't in the squad for the Villa game and I was wondering if anyone knows how he got injured, what injury he has or how long he's likely to be out for. I didn't even know he was injured until I saw he wasn't at Villa! Thanks Fernside Eagle

Contrary to other posters, I am a fan of JS. He gets in to decent goalscoring positions and is capable of driving runs from midfield. 'Sublime' may not be the correct description, but he always strikes me as a player who gives 100 per cent.

I like JS & I would respectfully suggest quite a few managers of teams in the lower PL would like him too, as we have often said on these boards when injuries & suspensions come knocking we have to rely on players that can fill in, JS is attractive in that respect because he can play in a number of positions, generally he tries hard, he may not be the most talented player on the field but overall he rarely lets you down - The question about how he keeps Hughes out of his specialist position is a completely different question & I completely agree that PV must know / see something that we cant -
