The problem being ,all to often Doucoure,s interceptions are not supported well enough, and turned into offensive situations. We have three even four so-called creative mid fielders , not creating. For most punters breaking the opposition play up is not a craft, an art of its own. Just a clumsy player putting it about.

Been very impressed with him, and the stats show how important he has been in breaking up play. Hard to show his ball holding / passing when all of those around him are slower in thought, positioning and finding space. He is our version of Casimero and if the new boys get a chance to play alongside, then we might see him really shine. Problem is that the way we set up, he has to do others work. Hard to evaluate his overall leadership capacity on the field right now, but something he might be able to evolve if the people around him can step up as well.

If POTY was tomorrow he'd absolutely walk it. Feel sorry for him having the useless t***s he's had next to him all season up to now, hopefully the new boys take the load off of him and he gets to enjoy a bit of time on the ball instead of having to break up attacks all day. Got a lovely switch on him when he gets the chance to show it

A true gem! Until Hughes came along, he almost had to cover midfield alone. Leave Schlupp on the bench and see what McArthur and the two newcomers can do. At the same time, Mitchell will get some support.

Ive seen a couple people have a dig at him on here and I do not understand that at all. We've got about 5 maybe 6 proper premier league players and he's definitely one of them.

Great player, he's single handedly dragged our midfield through this season. Biggest concern is that 2 bookings in our next 10 games will see him get a 2 match ban. So far he's got 8 in 22 games so well on course for it. The last time he was suspended Everton thrashed us which in a sense shows his impact on the team. I'd love to see Lokonga in the team tomorrow to give Cheick some help and have someone who should be able to pick a pass. Hughes, Doucoure and Lokonga as a three might finally get us some control in the middle of the pitch. McArthur and Ahamada to be eased in around them.

Problem has been in lieu of, or the delay in, identifying Hughes as a good partner for Doucoure PV has unfortunately trialled numerous players who have proven ineffective, to be polite, in more central midfield positions (Ayew, Olise, Schlupp). Doucoure, ASL, Ahamada, Hughes, Eze, McArthur. Those should be the 6 competing for 3 places and you never know might create food for thought as opposed to desperate rotating and searching for someone to occupy these positions.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Keeps getting booked because he's off the pace IMO. Can't switch feet with the ball, drop his shoulder and get us playing forward, limited passing range, lack of quality in the final third. Player of the year my arse.

9 yellows and 1 red may well be an indication he’s off the pace or alternatively that he’s the only player in midfield prepared to tackle and win the ball. Whatever else it shows he’s getting stuck in. Shame some of the others don’t put in a similar shift. The reason Vieira picks Schlupp and Ayew is because they work hard. Olise to be fair is improving slowly in terms of tracking back and tackling but Eze hasn’t improved at all. Even a period on the bench had failed to light a fire under him. I see Vieira came out and criticised Edouard on French TV for his attitude and failure to work hard.

I like Doucoure, but today he was stupid and undisciplined. No excuse for that second yellow. We would have never have scored even with 11, but still, it was inexcusable for him. Fortunately, he'll just miss yet another match that we have no chance to win. We may as well rest everyone until April at this point.
