Just a gentle muse, as i did some driving this week and passed-by some places that I've pencilled in to visit later this year. So does anyone else have some favourites ? I didn't know you were in Wales, when did you move? I like the industrial landscape around Blaenavon myself. And Blaenonneu Quarry on Mynydd Llangynidr. All that old industrial heritage, including The Big Pit museum. And I particularly like abandoned hospitals like The Mid-Wales Hospital, also known as Talgarth Hospital and the Brecon and Radnor Counties Joint Lunatic Asylum. Dead spooky.

My wife was born in Wales FH, she is very into history so whenever we visit there are always castles on the agenda. And, let's face it, Wales is loaded with them. Loves them all, but I think Raglan Castle is top of her list. Last time we were in Ironbridge, many years ago, our daughter was about 3yrs old and part way through the living museum presentation she, being bored at the time, somehow managed to pull the plug and the whole thing shut down and the room was plunged into darkness. Just a tad embarrassing. As for me, my historical interests are more recent. So, living close to the historical Goodwood motor circuit gives me ideal opportunity to visit often.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

i went to Bristol on Saturday. What a s-hole. however, I did catch a glimpse of the Clifton suspension bridge which is outstanding. When i go back next month and i going to splash out £1 on driving over it, or maybe walking. I was rather taken with some huge anti-monarchy graffiti lettering half-way up the cliff face, 10ft high letters, "NO KING LOVE HERE" I was exclaiming the anti-royalist stance taken, when my wife informed me that someone had painted grey over the FUC, in front of KING. Ahh, no really a lot of positive things to say about Bristol. The Bridge was fantastic though. Edited by Forest Hillbilly (30 Jan 2023 6.41am) Attachment: Bristol suspension bridge.JPG (5,521.49Kb)

Adjacent to the bridge are the former Clifton Rocks Railway [Link] and Clifton Observatory [Link]

PS: at each end of the Clifton Suspension Bridge is a sign urging potential 'jumpers' to contact The Samaritans. A wag once said to me that the sign should only be needed as you head towards Bristol rather than away from it. Seriously though; imagine how desperate people must be to contemplate and indeed carry out such a leap.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Badger, you have lit the blue touchpaper. My one big trip this year is going to be Ironbridge, with , or without Carol Decker.
She was of course famously attacked by Batman who sarcastically shouted 'T'Pau' whilst smashing a vase over her head. When she she queried 'don't you mean 'Kapow' he explained that he had China in his hand.
