I think that more than sending Manure fans home with their tails between their legs. was the MoM performance by Will Hughes. Why has Vieira taken so long to start Hughes? EXACTLY what we needed and gave us the energy in midfield so badly missing without Jimmy Mac’s injury and Gallagher’s departure.
Maybe Schlupp plays instead of Ayew? He makes things happen but he’s no midfielder

So many of us have been calling for Hughes to replace Schlupp (and to use the latter as an impact sub) and I' so pleased for him that he took his chance. He has that McArthur type spirit: snapping at people's toes, looking to play forward, a no fear attitude. Yes he gave the ball away two or three times but for me he had a big hand in why United didn't overrun us.

Hughes had a terrific game, gave the ball away once or twice, but he was brilliant.

So did Jedinak (and so, dare I say, does Gallagher). But we still need that type of player in the middle.

Was brilliant. Works so hard hassling and intercepting. And always looking to move it forward and get an attack going. Him and new boy Richards were both outstanding. Great result.

Im a big fan of high energy tough tackeling midfielders which we have missed this season with Maccas injuries .Hughes certainly showed why with a decent performance the need for this type of player in the middle of the park.

PV's reluctance to use him I think is based on his indicipline in holding his position in the defensive shape . He often looks lost with the game passing him by ,loses his man too easily ,gets booked every game and cant be trusted to carry out the simplist of tacticle instructions .

That was before PV got to grips with him . Leaving him out till he learned how to be more effective , tackle at the right time and in the right places .He is learning from a master of the art

Showed last night he is learning but will need to do it better and on a regular basis to prove he is the answer to our midfield problems
Well done Will keep it up.

He spoke very eloquently after the match. I think he is a decent, intelligent footballer and despite his smaller stature, a bit of a terrier around the middle of the park. He was well liked at Watford and I am surprised we have not utilised him more, we were so much better in midfield last night because of his presence.

'kin hell mate how tall are you?
He's 6 one.
Wouldn't want to be sat behind you if that's smaller stature.

It's a strange one with Hughes though as it does appear that Vieira doesn't like him for whatever reason!!

i would have to agree with you. All the evidence, on the pitch, is that Hughes is the real deal, a real Eagle.

I wasn’t thinking just height as he is built more like Olise than Milivojevic but I take your point, never realised he was that tall. Always looks quite small on the pitch to me.

I think we all agree his opportunity is long overdue. He strikes me as a pound-shop Gallagher. Doesn't have Conor's threat in the attacking third, but otherwise similar energy, mobility, vision, and timing elsewhere around the pitch.
