It's like a drug.

I'll do the 120 mile round drive tomorrow already knowing what the outcome is going to be.

My wife likes to book a holiday around the end of December for us to go in May, but I always look when the cup final is, and avoid being away that date just in case.

It's the hope that kills you (or falling asleep on the motorway after working and then attending another 8pm kick off) !!

Attending football matches detaches me from my dear wife, accordingly I am not on the receiving end of her unrelenting invective and persistent ordure.

Buy her some different perfume then Willo . . .

Oops, sorry, just re-read that, ORDURE not ODOUR

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Until she reads that post of course and the contumelious vituperation is increased to even more Olympian heights.

I recall once presenting her with some perfume and that evening she used it rather liberally.
Her effervescent mood changed when I commented "Nice perfume but why did you marinate in it?"

There have been times recently when I am thinking whether to renew my season ticket next summer.

Obviously our present dip in form doesn't help but as a long time fan that is not actually a deciding factor.

However, there are other things that I am getting fed up with. I have to travel up from near the south coast and train services have been diabolical - if its not strikes, its engineering works, delays/cancellations due to staff shortages, signal failures etc.

I really peed off with match times being all over the place due to TV coverage.

I also don't really enjoy watching matches against the "big" teams with their untold resources and a bench of players who would probably all walk into our starting line up. Of course occasionally beating is compensation, but it rarely happens.

I’ve always wondered how people, especially from abroad pluck a team out of no-where and decide to ‘support’ them even though all they can do is watch on TV from thousands of miles away. As far as I’m concerned if you haven’t got that match day experience, i e actually being there, you’ve got nothing!! Which is why I keep going, because I know once I do stop and bin my season ticket I’ll rapidly lose interest, and no matter how s***e it is, I’m not ready for that just yet, despite my journey being poxy at times with rail strikes, cancellations, engineering works or traffic and road closures if I drive

I think something else that keeps me going is that no matter how boring or how bad things have got in the past, if we scrape a 1-0 win in a depressingly dull game in a half empty ground against say Grimsby or Barnsley, I’ll still walk up Whitehorse lane after the game with a spring in my step and it makes my weekend. So I bare that in mind now, things might be a struggle sometimes to keep interested, but I try to remember that feeling when we do win or at least get a decent draw

I have often watched the highlights of a weekend win on Monday morning just to tear me away from the melancholy of being at the beginning of a working week. Never fails to deliver.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I only watch match of the day if we win. Not watched it for a while. It also spoils my weekend and for days after
