I guess there is a ray of hope since in today’s press conference PV stated that we are looking for more physicality and more experience. We have experience in defence and in forward areas the way we play the physical strength element is not top of the list so my guess is we are at least looking to bring in an experienced strong midfielder.Who or if we get one is anyones guess.COYP

Hopefully we are as almost every Palace supporter will tell you that midfield is where our major problems lie. Equally hopefully Parish isn't pinning all of his hopes on getting Conor Gallagher as that is unlikely to happen. On your second point, are we trying to sign a striker or is that just agent and media talk? I would imagine IF Parish were pinning all his hopes on getting Gallagher it is not 'unlikely to happen', you know, what with him knowing just a tad more about whats going on behind the scenes than you do.

I don't get all this fuss about Kouyate. Sure, he was a strong defensive midfielder but he had no creativity or passing skills at all. What we need is a creative, ball holding player. Find one and then Doucoure can be relied on defensively and the new guy will supply the service for our half-starved forwards and we will score more than we let in.

Possibly, I read that the players themselves cautioned against it too, very strange to me if PV really wanted Cheikhou he would not be able to keep him. The cost of replacing him with a like player I don't even know if there is one, Dan Burn very tall 13 millions Brighton to Newcastle what a bargain.

Would you have paid £40m plus for him? There's no way our owners would. I believe we may have been interested in him up to the £20-25m mark but not when teh stakes went higher. Nottm For paid £25 Mill rising up to £42.5 Mill with add-ons.

With respect, the club never expressed the sentiments that he was surplus to requirements and shown the door. Willo, of course technically you are right but in my view if you refuse to negotiate or consider your negotiating position then to all intents and purposes you are telling the person on the other side of the table that he's not valuable enough to compromise your beliefs which, effectively, is saying "if we have to change our position to keep you, then you're surplus to requirements". And in Kouyate's case, saying "it's my way or the highway" was a horribly bad decision that is now coming back to haunt us. Had we replaced both Kouyate AND Gallager with Doucoure and someone else, that would be less the case and I'd be more sympathetic to your view but as things stand now, the club clearly thought saving a few quid was more important than strengthening (actually, simply maintaining) the side. That's the sort of behaviour from owners that loses you good managers sooner or later, usually sooner. The 2021 summer window was a triumph. The 2022 summer window is looking like the opposite.

He currently feels he has a future at Chelsea but if sold will only leave for a top half team or will go abroad. We wont see Conor Gallagher in a Palace shirt again Thanks. For me, this is the sort of post (and inside information) that makes these forums worth reading. Obviously, we have to take you and the above on trust but it sounds credible enough to me.

You are apparently one of many people who misunderstand Doucoure. Doucoure is the creative midfielder, the one who can get forward and play a pass or shoot from distance. But without a Kouyate in midfield with him to play the sitting role, he can't (and hasn't been able to) get forward for us. On the rare occasions he has got up the pitch, you can see his potential to make things happen going forward, but his role in the team doesn't allow him to use those skills to the full. That is why letting Kouyate go was such an awful idea; it has held back our biggest summer signing.
