Same boat for me.

I still maintain he was our 'best player', even above Wilf at some 'squeaky bum' stages and seems a great guy, still a lot of gratitude there from me.

Not being reliant upon or notable for his athleticism, plus he has 'gotten older' as we all do, I have mused recently as to whether he is the type of player who needs/needed to be playing regularly for anyone to get the best out of whatever he has left. It's undoubtedly less than it was seasons past and now it seems the reduction to sporadic cameos has seriously affected his performances. I also think our 'style' is very different to the Hodgson, backs against the wall one which he seemed to flourish in.

I think you may be right, but he hasn't exactly shown any signs that Vieira should give him that opportunity. In contrast Hughes came in with the bit between his teeth on Saturday.

Hughes in for Schlupp. Mitchell on the left, Clyne on the right. Midfield: Hughes - Doucoure - Luka - Eze
Zaha and Olise on top.

Yes, that's for me (and what have we got to lose) plus stock up with youngsters on the bench. Luka and Schlupp just not up for it anymore.

JWM, in my opinion, is one of the most instinctual technically proficient passers of a football that we have had on any of our squads this century. He seems to be the closest to a 'holding' pure centre mid with a requisite skillset capable of not only implementing but architecting a turn of play, that we have. There is a reason he is our U21 captain as an 18yo. Methinks it is time for a run-in.

Realising I might get slaughtered on this one.

Actually, I’m quite ignorant when it comes to our youth team so if nothing else grateful for some insight! If you are correct, I’d say come 2-0 down, why not?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Ayew

Ayew has struggled since returning from the WC, but at least he'll put a shift in and he wins free-kicks. Edouard needs to do more outside the box if he's going to play against the bigger teams. Hughes may not be the answer, but at least he plays like a central midfielder unlike Schlupp and I thought he was one of our better players against Saints.

When you look at our squad there's only really two questions: who plays up top and who plays central midfield with Doucoure. 8 or 9 players are almost certain to start every game. That lack of competition is a real worry.

My only change would be Edouard for Ayew as he is a stronger defensive attacker (if there is such a thing). We need to defend for the full 90mins or how long the ref keeps playing. We can do this but it will need stubbornness and resilience.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Back 7, not moving out of position, counter attack, play longer

I think a change in our system has got to be worth a try and like the shape of this team. I would say Tomkins for Richards or Mitchell for Schlupp would fit this system as well and possibly Hughes for Luka but i understand that we need a bit of a ball winner in the middle hence why Luka might be prefered.

Every time I've watched the U-21/18 I thought Wells-Morrison was worth advancing. Maybe I'm watching through rose-coloured glasses, but worth a chance. Aside from Decoure, we don't have a better defencive midfielder who can also advance the play.

BTW, Decoure has taken about 10 shots from outside the penalty area this year and not 1 has been close to the goal, let alone beating the keeper.
