PV has done a superb job thus far. A few problems at present and I for one hope it settles quickly. We need new players of quality to enhance the quality ones we have, goal getter is a must but as we all know this is not easy. Midfield (Connor G) back would help and for me a good RB also is a must.

I'd like to know what quality players we have that need enhancing.
I reckon we have two who could make a step up, and many that need a step down.

Sometimes you look at a squad and think a manager should be getting more out of it, but when you look at ours it is hard to make that case. If we got rid of Vieira what kind of manager would want the job? Only another inexperienced one looking to make the step up I imagine.

I really like our set-up and if the club back Vieira with the players he says he needs we should go into the second half of the season full of confidence. If we don't then my finger will be pointing at the board not the manager.

Roy Hodgson must have been a miracle worker then, PV has bought Olise, Andersen, Hughes, Edouard, Mateta, Plange, Ebowei, Doucoure and Richards, 9 players for about 100m and we have deteriorated in terms of organisation and attitude

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

I think the consensus is that Roy did a great job of keeping us up but that by the end the football was painful to watch. Vieira has transitioned us into a team that have more possession and play more attractive football. Olise, Andersen and Doucoure have all proven to be astute signings, as has Guehi, all of which are now probably valued at more than we paid for them (some significantly more). Mateta came in under Roy and Plange and Ebiowei were clearly signed for the future at minimal cost. Hughes has basically fulfilled the role of bit-part squad player and Richards is only just back from injury. Edouard has struggled to live up to expectations.

Vieira started out coaching at Man City like Arteta who having had the patience of Arsenal's board is now proving to be an excellent manager after questions were raised in his first couple of seasons. People are too quick to sack managers and fans have no patience and flip-flop to a ludicrous extent depending on what the result was. The team and the owners seem happy with him as boss, which is important, plus I like the fact he looks like he could beat all the other managers up with no trouble at all Once he gets that naked picture of himself back from Schlupp he can finally drop him and I'll be even happier.

I think the fact only three of the names you’ve mentioned have played with any regularity is telling.

That asides, most the names there constitute ‘squad fillers’ for me. We desperately need first team players, wing backs, midfielders and a central striker. I can’t realistically see us signing one first team player in January and would be willing to bet on it.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

We are a very average side at best, that is why we can't beat the teams in the top half of the table but can get results against the bottom half sides.

That statement above shows that we have actually gone backwards since last season, where we could pull out results against the top sides.

It should come of no surprise really.

It was obvious to everyone (except the club) the we were so light in midfield compared last season.

Gallagher - his energy and pressure on the opposition caused so many problems for other sides last season. He was never replaced.

Kouyate - a much needed physical presence now absent.

MacArthur - injured all season. Should have never been relied upon to be available.

This season. :-

Schlupp - never ever a central midfielder. A left sided player at best.

Milojoivic - miles away from he players he was.

Hughes - quite a tidy player, but doesn't seem to be favoured. Was he a Freedman signing rather than a PV signing. Another Victor Camarasa ?

Riedlewald - was never a central midfielder when he played under Roy.

We have spent 25m on Doucoure - but he can't do everything himself.

Trouble is, I just can't see us bringing anyone in during January either.

Without a Gallagher or Jimmy Mac we have no steel or energy in midfield. Doucoure cannot hold it on his own. Eze and Olise are promising with the ball but too lightweight when we dont. I prefer Hughes to Shlupp. Parish needs to get his checkbook out or risk a relegation drama.

Crystal Palace have spent around £30m this season. This is the third lowest in the Premier League.
Since Vieira became manager, Palace have spent £104m - excluding teams promoted and relegated, this is the third lowest over the last two seasons. 😑

We’ve gone from a conservative, largely defensive side full of older experienced players under Roy to a more expansive team with younger players of potential under PV.
It’s been a rapid change in style which is not without it’s pitfalls.
You could turn up for a game under Roy and know what to expect with games often being tight affairs with 8 men behind the ball .
I was one of those very pleased of the change of approach introduced by PV last season including the use of talented young players.
It seems churlish to be too critical of him now when many of us were crying out for a change of approach.
My concern this season is that some of the younger players like Michell and Olise have not developed as expected , we’re weaker in midfield and the full backs are not athletic or attacking enough to meet the objectives of Vieira’s style.
I think with the addition of a couple of first team ready players (as opposed to squad fillers) we would be fine .
If such players don’t arrive and make an immediate contribution I anticipate a topsy turvy season with performances like those v Fulham and Spurs mixed with some games where we manage to eke out results like against Wolves, Leeds and Bournemouth.

I do not sense any great fustigation against PV, indeed this was the impression I got last night.
Supporters I have been in contact with, and perhaps many others, are pointing fingers at the strength of the squad at his disposal.
