Sadly, I never did have a bagful of Felicity Kendal's underwear 'that needed a good wash'.

My wife and I were married in St Paul's Church, Brackley Road off Copers Cope in 1971. It's the church you often see in videos of play or training at the academy. We didn't have a washing machine to start with and I used to take our stuff to a launderette in Tunbridge Wells during my lunch break. A nearby pub, The Flying Dutchman, did a good pasty and chips so a worthwhile lunch break all round. My mum occasionally used a launderette in Carshalton and for some reason I always remember their big, blue Bendix machines. Impressed me as feeling very American.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
