How about trying him in our team? Edouard is useless out wide, frankly. Perhaps Rak-Sakyi could be used as a sub for Wilf? I guess it's a bit of an issue, as I believe he wouldn't be able to go out on loan if we did use him. I think you can only play for two clubs in a season.

Well, he seems to be as good at taking penalties as Wilf.

However, if he does well in the Championship he will have proved himself. Doesn't prove much at League One level though. He's already done well there.

Has he done well there?

He's shown promise and has had good moments in games. Still very young and naive - maybe championship next season will be a better move.

He's done well enough to be wanted by several Championship clubs. He's been one of Charlton's best players.
I suppose if people genuinely think Edouard out wide is good enough and that Rak-Sakyi is not as good as that, he may as well just work at Sainsburys.

Rather see Gordon played out wide

Do you not think if you put Edouard on the wing in League One he'd tear the place up?

I like JRS but it's difficult to make the case that he's as good as Edouard at this stage, even out of position.

Ebiowei is a very similar style of player and seems further along in his development than JRS - if he can barely get minutes, I don't see how JRS would.

I would imagine he'll be happy to play at Old Trafford next month.

I don't think Edouard would tear the place up out wide in League One. He patently can't play there and he's quite lazy. He's not great centre forward either but he did get the odd goal recently.
Ebiowei needs better chances, again shoe horning Edouard out wide, or Mateta, is worse than using the young players who can play there in my opinion. I don't want to slag off the manager, but I would say he has favourites.
Championship sides chomping at the bit for Rak-Sakyi and Ebiowei so they can't be far off good enough for us. Half our team is around Championship standard.
I wouldn't be against Ayew on the left, however, but Zaha would no doubt sulk if on the right. To be honest - that's what I would do if I were Vieira. I would then have the youngsters on the bench. I don't see the point in having top rated youngsters and never using them.

I just disagree on Edouard - I think he absolutely can play off the left, and would look stupidly good doing so at League One level. He played wide for Celtic on many occasions.

In what world is half our team Championship standard?

I think you are massively understating the step between the Championship and the top flight - the fact that JRS is wanted by Hull and Ispwich does not mean he's ready for us. Our squad is in a different class altogether.

Luka, Riedewald, Hughes, Ayew, Schlupp, Butland, Mateta, Edouard - just a few players off the top of my head that would be average players in the championship. Eze and Olise plenty good enough for us so don't think there is a massive gap between doing well in the Championship and decent in the Premier League.
As for our squad - what is our wide cover? We literally have two or perhaps three who can even play out wide and one is not Edouard - he's been anonymous there. If he plays it has to be centre forward.

I disagree on quite a few of those - Hughes has been a Prem player for 5 out of the last 6 seasons, Ayew is now 8 years in the Prem, Schlupp is 10 years straight and a Premier League winner - there's no way you can reasonably argue they're Championship players if moreorless their whole careers have been played in the top flight.

Eze and Olise were amongst the best players in the division when we signed them, and they still took time to adjust. JRS hasn't even looked as good in League One as those two did in the Championship.

An argument that Ayew and Schlupp aren't good enough for the Prem, despite ~500 games played in the division, while at the same time suggesting that JRS (who's never played a minute in the Championship) is, just doesn't make sense to me.

Wide options off the left are Wilf, Edouard and Eze.
Off the right; Olise, Ayew, Ebiowei

I don't disagree on Edouard being a good player and capable of playing out wide however I still think his problem is confidence. He seemed somewhat daunted by the PL, somewhat (noting his heroics coming on against Spurs), but also he's been played in rotational positions and sporadically. The combination of the two, I would dare to suggest, has left him occasionally (I think so anyway, not all the time) 'anonymous', as ASCPFC said.

Furthermore, I do wonder if PV has drilled Odsonne with far more tactical instruction than he received elsewhere? I can't claim that as fact just a thought but if so I've seen many a player, at many levels, often look less effective for this.

My opinion is middling between the two of your (EDN/ASCPFC) assertions. I think we certainly need another first team, reliable and inspiring winger and then one or possibly even two youngsters waiting in the wings (pun intended) to be brought on when 2+ goals up or at other junctures where it will be mutually beneficial.

I'm not a fan currently of playing individuals in the RW/LW slots who probably themselves, if not I, would consider their primary positions to be elsewhere. It plays out on the pitch as it does on paper, somewhat square pegs in round holes. I think Zaha and Olise on opposing wings is a fantastic combination however the back up to that, or options off the bench, I find less than inspiring occasionally. Was the same when Andros was on the right.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Don't disagree at all, but when I look at our squad as a whole, a back up winger would be pretty low down my list of priorities, as much as it would be nice.
