Kudus of Ghana plays for Ajax, is young and probably within our price range. He's looked good. Plus, he's a centre mid.

I am always suspicious of players who emerge at a WC, many of them turn out to be duds.

There was the Italian striker Toto who was top scorer in 1990 but made Ade Akinbiyi look prolific at club level.

James Rodrigues was another who had a good world cup but has only shown flashes since.

And many more, no doubt someone will prove me wrong but my hunch is that players who emerge at the WC tend to be expensive and don't live up to their billing.

Some players are capable of raising their game for a handful of matches especially if their team mates are very good but can't keep it going over a season e.g. Andros Townsend.

Kudus puts himself out of our price range.

A lot of truth there.

Aligns for me with saying:

"Anybody can look World Class in their YouTube highlights reel".

Often the reality of seeing them play week in/week out does not align with flashes of brilliance, some of which may occur at the likes of the WC!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

How about Soutar of Australia, tall tough defender ideal replacement for Joel Ward.
Saved two certain goals against Tunisia whose tackling was a bit rugged to say the least.

Yes, I am a fan! Great shout your nobility!

Subjectively, as I do like a tall CB, purely for set pieces defending/attacking but also he looks like he is at least worthy of a spot in the squad. He also looks to not fall too stereotypically into the 'too tall therefore uncoordinated and unathletic' bracket.

He's at Stoke I think, which should mean he has English footballing experience and shouldn't cost the world.

Would certainly have my backing.

I have seen Souttar ply is trade for Stoke and he is well 'North' of 6ft.He is a central defender who is adept at passing the ball out of defence but his lankiness does limit his agility and pace, he is not the most fleet of foot.

He could do a job for us. Perhaps Palace will be his suitors.

Sorry, the undermentioned extract from the Beeb's gossip column suggests otherwise.

"Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain want to sign 22-year-old Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus from Ajax. (Fichajes - in Spanish)"

He's a center back isn't he?
