Would not mind Ayew and Schlupp as regular bench warmers, coming on for the last 20 minutes. If chasing a goal (Schlupp), if defending (Ayew).

WTF more does Olise have to do to placed above Ayew in PV's mind? Check out their Youtubes: Olise kills Ayew. Is it voodoo? Everytime he plays Ayew my stomache drops. I don't mind him on the bench but he's so much below other EPL players in those positions I just don't know how he gets picked. Last week's goal that West Ham scored was Ayew who failed to spoil Benrama's entrance in through the defence for a shot. NOTHING was said about it! Voodoo? If that was Olise instead I bet people would have blamed him. How many matches have we won with Ayew not starting? That guy is a passenger! Yes he does some good things we can point out like a good assist to Zaha last match, but he does this so rarely, whereas Olise does it more often and more effectively and scores more. Is it just me? Some wil say yes, but are there any who agree? Olise was totally the wrong type of player to come up against that Forest side. Ayew is a lot lot better then you realise.

For a bit of balance Ayew made an excellent run down the wing beating several players, then crossing to Zaha, who was taken down for the penalty. You cant blame him for Zaha missing! Deluded fans have been blaming Ayew for everything that goes wrong for quite a few seasons.

Another day, another "let's bash Ayew" thread. Boring. The fellow puts in more effort and cover than the other three alongside him put together. Bring the likes of Eze, Zaha, and Olise on as impact subs and let's see how it pans out. I agree. He is a very useful member of the team. He draws fouls and relieves pressure. He is a really hard worker and always busy and available. Not for nothing do defences often double up on him, so they understand his value even if some here don’t. He was bought as a striker, which he is poor at, but has become something else.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

I have to say I am a fan of Ayew - in some ways its difficult to say exactly why. It is frustrating that he can't recapture the goal scoring form that he found that one season 3 or 4 years back, and he does often make poor decisions when in and around the opposition penalty area. But he does work hard and draws fouls. Players find it very hard to dispossess him and he rarely gives the ball away cheaply. Perhaps I am being totally illogical, but there is just something I find reassuring when he is in the side.

Edited by babylonjohn (13 Nov 2022 3.32pm) I agree he doesn't bring that excitement that Zaha and Olise bring... He's technically very good although we are seeing less of that skill in my opinion. He brings very little now for me. People go on about him winning free kicks and he was/is very good at that. However I feel referees have cottoned on to that now and he wins nowhere near as much as he used to. I just feel he's not good enough anymore. If we are looking to progress rather than survive every season then he's one of those players that has to go.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |
