Quite frankly Vince I am with you on this one - at my age I have seen so many WC where England have participated & the media giving it large about our chances of going "all the way" & us barely scraping out of the group stages only to be knocked out in the QF against Portugal - 1 Major international final since 66 (in the Euros) ? I will be happier when its all over & Palace participants are safely home uninjured & ready to go again in the League - If this was England Rugby or Cricket I would probably feel different ( although seeing Rugby getting beaten by the Argies I have to be a bit meh about that) Originally posted by VinceHilaire
As selfish as it sounds, I would be delighted if only a couple of our players were playing in the World Cup. I’m guessing most clubs will treat it like another preseason with ample time off, fitness and training. Shame, because we are on a good run..

Eze should go because with Foden they are England's best two players, but i hope he doesn't
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

Don't think we have much to worry about. Ghehi will go but doubtful he will play. That will only happen if either we have two injuries/suspensions, or if we win the first two and rest players for the third game (against USA I think?). Mitchell I don't think is good enough to get selected, despite our injuries. Even if he is, he won't play. In my opinion, Eze should go, by Southgate won't select him. If he does go, he might get the odd cameo appearance. I think out only worry is Andersen, who I presume will play 90 mins every game.

I imagine Guehi will go and hang out at the swimming pool, at best getting a few minutes when a game is clearly won. Mitchell had his best game in a while at West Ham and Gareth was in the crowd, so an outside bet but I imagine unlikely. I love Eze, but I don't think he has the stats in terms of goals and assists to pressure Southgate into picking him. As an aside, am I right in thinking Andersen and Ayew are the only two non-English players likely to be going to the WC?

Qatar in November / December (if you have money) is a nice place to be & for sure the England team will be well looked after, it wont be too hot, decent training facilities, good hotels, good food etc - so long as you are respectful, taking into consideration where you are & don't turn up expecting it to be like Ibiza - for someone like Marc, on the fringes of the squad it should be a good trip / good experience. The English squad as a whole lacks pace. Southgate has been at a lot of Palaces games of late and it will be Eze and or Guehi he will be mulling over. I would be taking both. Maguire is not playing regularly and Eze would be a great impact sub if you take Rice or Henderson

We have plenty of midfielders so unless there are a flurry of injuries I just don't see Eze making the squad.
