Just for fun, put yourself in his boots - what would you have said Willo ?

"The ball was proffered to me in the inside-right position by my erstwhile colleague Mr Zaha, who was at that instance occupying the centre-forward locale. After a brief reconnoitre of the situation, I opted to cut inside the full-back and then loft the ball left-footed towards the objective. The deftness of my attempt combined with the slightest of deflections took the ball beyond the reach of the hapless custodian and - if I may employ the popular vernacular - into the 'onion bag'".

I remember his interview after we beat Millwall in the cup last year - it was about as insightful as this one!

The bloke needs some media training as he comes across as a total drip. These sort of interviews don't make you warm to him as a fan. If he's not careful he'll become the butt of jokes like Kane is. But that said, at the end of the day his job is to play football and he'd bloody good at that.

why should it be on him? I think he knows what he's doing. Interviewer should work a bit harder

We've written on an earlier thread that he comes across as a tad arrogant and disinterested when he's interviewed. I'm sure Willo has a point in that he finds the questions inane.

Personally, his attitude doesn't bother me if he continues to play with panache. If, like Goal Machine has written, it puts people off him, all well and good. I don't enjoy reading the all too frequent articles linking him with other clubs.

Hands off! I say and carry on responding to interviews with disdain.

Couldn't agree more.

I often recall a woman interviewing Martin Johnson when he was briefly England rugby coach.

Interviewer: Martin, England have lost 6 of their 8 matches since you took over.

Johnson: (Dark, brooding, menacing) I know that.

Interviewer: Erm, and England have slipped from 3rd to 7th in the world rankings since you took over.

Johnson: I know that too.

....and so on.

When we got back to John Inverdale in the studio, he said in a semi-pleading voice, "Martin, next time don't you think you should pick on someone your own size?"

The camera was on him as fans like to get an insight form the players directly. On this occasion the interviewer asked perfectly reasonable open questions which were deserving of a better answer from someone who has just scored a 94th minute equaliser who you expect to be ecstatic.

If someone can pull out the Millwall interview, on that occasion, I would agree that the questioning was poor - all closed questions which got one word responses.

As Willo suggests, I think he's very uncomfortable in front of the camera which is fair enough and pretty normal, hence why he would benefit from media training. It would be a good life skill to learn.

Very good YT.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Change that to the third person and it sounds like one of Stuart Hall's Capital Gold updates.

I think maybe we should avoid comparing Willo to Stuart Hall!

I think the reporters opene was "talk us through it"

That isn't a question, is it? Even if it is, its pretty darned weak. THe goal? The match? Something else?

That said, I have had the pleasure of meeting him, he's clearly shy.

Disagree! He came across as witty and down to earth. He was asked a question and gave an accurate answer. I think he was challenging the interviewer: if you want any more, you need to ask for it. He had a lovely half-smile while all this was going on.

Who was it many years ago who responded to the same question with "Well Brian I just kicked it and it went in"
