I agree he has regressed, and I'd love to know the cause. When he joined the first team, I thought he was good because he was so young and raw that he played with fierce focus, energy, and discipline. Fearful of making a defensive mistake, he was 100% committed to being the best defender possible and thus was always alert to his position relative to potential attackers. He was difficult to get by, and on the odd occasion when someone managed to do so, Tyrick was able to catch up and make amends. As he gained confidence, however, he appeared to play more "casually," for lack of a better term. His injury or injuries have slowed him slightly, and the combination of less focus and less pace has made him much more vulnerable. In my opinion he has declined from being a truly superior defender to, on our level, an average one. Perhaps surrounded by world-class players in the WC, he might go back to being really useful, but I suspect that his injuries might limit him vs. the world's best.

He's definitely not at the same level this season but there's a good chance he goes now. The full backs that have played for England in 2022: James (out), Walker (doubt), KWP (doubt). Shaw, Trippier, TAA, White, Michell, Justin, Saka available. Saka and at least 4 who could play that wing back role go, probably 5. It's possibly a straight shootout between Mitchell and Justin. Southgate knows how to get the best out of right footed Saka, play him as left wingback, a position he has never played for his club. Anyway, why would any fan want any player from their team to go to the World Cup. It’s far more beneficial to have a break for 4 weeks, look how playing for England has regressed Mitchell.

I would love to see a Palace player go to the world cup but I am still very surprised TM has managed to get an England cap. In my viewWard is a better player than him even at his age.

Whether it be confidence, focus, drive or something else he looks far less 'sharp' these days. I often think it may have been the hype, you know, a youth player coming through who doesn't look awful and whilst still very young us all getting overexcited however I'm not sold on that. He got forward well against Southampton and has shown flashes this season however his 90 min game seems to have dropped. I don't want to see him in the England setup any more than I do any other Palace player however just for consideration - that stage and the quality of players around him might raise his game somewhat. Merely a thought however not an assertion plus I am doubtful of his chances of going in any circumstance. Would only be by default at this stage and even then I am sure there are other options.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Apparently Tyrick, Rico Henry and Dan “Dino the dinosaur” Burn are in the reckoning..!! How can you have 6ft 5 inch left back - with no pace - really..!! Out of the 3 I’d go Rico Henry - think he’s a good player and prospect. Outside that Aaron Cresswell or Ryan Sessegnon. But “Dino” please no..!! Let’s hope Chilwell is good to go..!! COYP and COYE

Saka was anonymous played as wing back game before last don’t think he will be wasted there again, tyrick hasn’t been at his best this season but has had injuries, on last seasons showings would be a solid option , it’s a yes from me I will text Gareth later and let him know

Even Southgate's not calling up a full back who can't pass a ball half the time

I sit in the main stand so I only get to see him up close one half per game, but I also think its a confidence thing, not sure I would say he is less sharp but there are times when I have definitely felt he has been caught in two minds when the opposing side is pressing forwards in numbers & he has struggled to make that positional decision - Seems to be less problematic going forwards because these days as a team we are much more supportive & Wilf & Marc & CD or Luka always show for him so he has options. When he has the ball at his feet his first look is almost always for Wilf, if he is covered then he looks inside for the others. Originally posted by Nicholas91

Dont think Mitchell has played well enough this season to get in though you never know what Southgate is thinking . It could be the making of him if he is called up though , a massive confidence booster so would be delighted for him if that were the case . With the lack of availible quaility at full back and with numerous decent CB's Southgate should go 3-5-2 anyway try and win the midfield and play the game in the oppositions half where our excellent forward players will be more effective looking for space rather than chasing shadows in a defensive line up . But of course Southgate will set up defensively ,play people out of position to suit his gameplan and bore us all to death . I fear its going to big let down

Which means they have been rubbish for ages and then have one good game yes Maguire I'm looking at you and Rashford. I know the media don't help but I have noticed this recently several players woefully out of form they have one good game and the papers claim they are back in Southgate's plans. Meanwhile others not in the big 6 perform week in and out "but are they ready?"
