With some it's always a rigged election when it's the result they don't like. Some people realistically just have little interest in democracy when it goes against their prefered outcome and are much more open to ideas of fascism. With many nowadays, they are actually very open and honest about supporting fascism as a tool of furthering their view of society. That fits neatly with supporting violence to take over a country post election.

Trump no doubt looks on wistfully. What could've been.. Storming empty buildings in this case though. History repeats but often dumber. Edited by MrWhyNot (08 Jan 2023 9.19pm)

But then, because the Left did not like either result, they tried everything to overturn both. And as a consequence, the acceptance of 'Liberal Democracy' as a common denominator is now over. Personally, my hope is that nations can effectively have peaceful secessions so that the Right and the Left can go their separate ways. And I suspect the Right would be more than happy to divide but the Left will not let it happen. Hence there will be increasing conflict. There is no more common ground. Somehow we need to be able to effectively live apart.

Somehow we need to be able to effectively live apart. I am so used to reading nonsense from you that I mostly ignore it as the irrelevance it surely is in the real world. This though takes the biscuit. It wasn’t the “left” who reacted to either Brexit or Trump. It came from every political persuasion. What connected them was a belief in democracy. No-one argued the Brexit result was rigged. The arguments were about the interference in the information process prior, the fact that a referendum isn’t part of our system and that after 4 years confirmation seemed wise. All valid and well expressed arguments which only failed because of Corbyn. Trump was opposed by many on the sensible right. Only the far right, the red necks and the chancers trying to harvest the votes of the ignorant and those who always get seduced by change don’t. He sold them jam and snake oil. They bought it. Now they don’t. There is no reason why a rational debate about traditional left/right politics cannot still be our way forward. Most of us don’t populate the extremes of the left or right. They can be left to shout at each other whilst normal people sort things out the best way we can.

Many musings offering opposing commentary here however if we really did our research and dug down into the core sentiments and critical contributors to Brazilian existential morality and identity, I think it safe to say we both could, and should, blame Neymar. I blame Neymar for all that is wrong in Brazil and I strongly encourage others to do so.

Nor did anyone say that the Brexit vote was rigged. You are just making things up. You really are writing nonsense.

What you are seeing in Brazil now is elite theory in action. No ground movement succeeds without elite backing.....at the very least they require a split in the elites or significant money behind them.

There will be no shortage of trouble this year. The Ukraine war I don't see any end to, Iran Palestine with the new anti-democracy govt., arms length in the Balkans, China/Taiwan etc.etc. The one thing about the Brits is that we are too pathetic to get fired up about grave injustices.

Clearly, Steeleye, you did not bear witness to my forceful questioning of, and hostility towards staff when they ceased stocking the green Snack a Jacks at my local supermarket!

You mean apart for up ending every Parliamentary convention for the last couple of hundred years, numerous court cases and getting the official opposition party to champion a second vote with Remain as an option? LOL. Call me every name under the sun you want. Dismiss what I am posting about Brazil as hysteria. Mock my claims about liberal democracy not being worth a fig anymore as pure hyperbole. Not a single problem with any of that. But please don't insult my, and millions of other voters, intelligence, by trying to claim that the Progressive Left did not try everything to get the Brexit vote over turned. You make yourself look like a fool. Own that.
