which is precisely why this Irish Catholic Eagle does not want a United Ireland. Those bigots up there are British. You can keep them. And they can keep the territory that was hard fought for 400 years ( all the Proddy bits anyway ).

Political Correctness has really shone a light on all their history of Homophobia & racism. With a Bible in one hand and a pistol in the other. Ian Paisley launched a campaign 'Save Ulster from Sodomy' ........ today many are regarding him as a Monty Python type character.

And of course Gerry Adams was also a nasty cv.nt , but two wrongs does not make a right.

You can no more give Antrim back to the Irish. No more than giving Manhatten back to the Native Americans.

The crimes of the past should be forgiven but not forgotten. Genocide, Invasion, colonisation, ethnic cleansing,

The last thing we want is another Yugoslavia....a place where the bloodbath continues to rear its ugly head every 50 or 100 years.

Manhattan was purchased fair and square by Peter Minuit.

What is the current value of $24 of wampum these days? We should offer to sell it back.

the 1921 Partition of Ireland was a good idea at the time. But nobody expected Catholic fertility to outpace Protestant fertility.

'A protestant State for a protestant people' can still be workable. Especially considering the history of Catholics in NI all being effectively second-class citizens. Employment, Social Housing, Healthcare, longevity, etc.

-------------------------------------------
another paradox being that most Catholics are not really Catholic anymore.......and the Prods are hardly clambering to attend a service every Sunday morning themselves.

and then, boy meets girl in a Belfast Disco. And its a new dialogue.....

''are you a catholic-atheist or a protestant-atheist ?

Some attitudes amongst population and politicians are so engrained, that barriers and divides (invisible or otherwise) are probably going to exist for many generations to come.
Nasty stuff is still happening on the streets (punishment beatings and knee-capping), it's just not widely reported.

They had a conference recently about unification and some of the speakers made the valid point that it's time the United Ireland brigade started to woo the NI voters.

What exactly would a United Ireland mean to those who wish to stay in the UK. Can they still keep their British citizenship what about their kids that haven't been born yet.

My guess is that those who want to remain British will have a long list of concerns I don't think it is enough to simply say we have the votes as Nicola Sturgeon is realising you have to carry people with you or at least alleviate some of their concerns.

There will be the die hards but maybe some can be won over if their concerns are addressed.

not any more .....seemingly.

And considering the longstanding support for Israel among Prods, and support for Palestine among CNR's..... you can guess that the group below will vote for the Shinners (SF).

now, what did we mention previously about Fertility ? Do not be surprised if the Orange Order start to muse about Constantinople in 1453. The big walls in your castle are meaningless if you have lost all of the hinterlands.

'no retreat, no surrender' was the calling cry of The Spartans. And they lost their dominance when the elitism of their society came back to bite them in the @rse. There ended up a situation of very few Spartans and lots of everybody else.

The politics is still ingrained into the Northern Ireland society fabric. There are still very obvious divides (not physical) between where people live and work and who they choose to socialise with.

The hatred is passed from generation to generation and encouraged socially. It's very difficult to get resolution with ignorance.

To use a Palace analogy, it's very much like hating Brighton. Nothing has gone on between the clubs for the last 30 years, and yet dads still tell their sons it's natural to hate the seagulls.

There has been enormous resistance to the introduction of Multidenominational co-ed schools. But before you condemn the relevant parties.....look at all the other parts of the World with mono-religion schools.

This sounds very much like how young blacks in the UK think slavery of 150 years ago is still a reason to want stuff and preferential treatment. Strange how the rhetoric doesn’t change.

there are parallels with colonisation in other parts of the World....where the newcomers do not wish to mingle with the original inhabitants.

The Boers in South Africa comes to mind. Apartheid.

both the Boers and Ulster Loyalists seem to encourage their kids to marry off with partners from the in-crowd. Almost exclusively.

It is no accident of history that the Ulster Loyalists also engendered the Hillbillies of Alabama.

Peace-talks and negotiations. Get past the stalemate. Lets invite the leaders of all the main parties. Get them around the table to talk in a mature & civilised fashion.

Actually, eh, maybe not...........

''Feckoff you, you have no place at this table. You're not even British''.

The irony being any decisions made if she was invited would need a sanction by the EU whom some on here will have us think don’t make decisions about individual countries. Or am I mistaken ?
