Last home game before World Cup. possibility of following our new (this season's) tradition and coming from one down to win 2-1. The best form of defence is attack. PV is allowed five substitutes.

At home we have a pattern of lack lustre first half performances but coming back strongly in the second. Anybody suggest why this is ? My worry is that if we concede two in the first half we will be struggling to get a draw. Of course, if we set up as in all our away games (3 goals, no wins)

Who has never scored, or hasn't scored for a season? They're a shoe in to score against us. Matt Le Tissier is worth a punt at 66/1

My worry is that if we concede two in the first half we will be struggling to get a draw. Of course, if we set up as in all our away games (3 goals, no wins) I have a theory but it's that and nothing more: We have set up to play a certain way which is to play the ball around at the back quite a lot and very slowly build up to something constituting an attack. This approach lacks urgency but has inevitably been clocked by other teams. Therefore they 'go at us' early on, often being able to nick a goal which isn't rocket science really. Eventually, that sense of urgency will kick in and opposing teams will tire so our improved effort coupled with their diminishing one will ultimately end up with us being on the front foot, dominating and hopefully nicking more goals than we have conceded. Against the top 4, we have often looked better as we adopt a slightly different, more tactically astute approach. To put is as informally as possible, it seems as though we expect things to 'go our way' and when they of course don't we either kick in (2-1 WW/LU/AV etc.) or become somewhat unstuck (3-0 Everton). In any case it would seem as though the method with which we approach just about every game needs changing as we need a 90min plan that's more likely to work than a 45min plan which hardly ever works with perhaps a 'plan B' for the second half in this inevitability.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

They often started slow under Hodgson too, so it's not a Vieira super duper tactical innovation.

For me it's a 2-0, no reason I just think that we have a well-balanced side except for the midfield. PV will look into this and sort out the problems leaving the attack and defence to do what is needed. I hope.
Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course). |

If PV doesn't alter to 4-2-3-1 instead of 4-3-3 with only one DM for Southampton, he never will. All i want is 3 points, COYP

Someone said it depends on which Palace show up....you can say the same about Southampton. We usually struggle against them at home and I think we will again. A draw.

I haven't looked it up scientifically or anything but I tend to agree with this. My perception of Southampton is being able to beat City or Liverpool playing good football. Then easily losing to someone else 5-0. It's a shame those 7-2 wins against them is never us. I think they will attack us early on. If they score one or two, we're in trouble. I'm hoping we can turn things around but my heart is saying Palace win, my head actually thinks they'll win.

It will be interesting to watch Wilf reaction at the end of the game on Saturday, (that's if he doesn't see red against WP) although technically he could play against Fulham on Boxing Day if a deal has been agreed he wouldn't play.
