Bring back Roy? I know it was Saturday night, but what were you on? With Roy in charge we would’ve lost at home to Leeds and Wolves, because once we went behind we were buggered because of our lack of attacking intent. Also we’re going to struggle at times when important players are missing because of our lack of decent cover i e Andersen recently and Doucoure yesterday, it’s plain to see PV needed a bit more backing in the window.
Look at last season Wolves didn't score many but also stopped other scoring which resulted in the high league position. It's not only one game we have been poor this season and did you forget about Leicester game a team which has the worst record in the league we didn't even try to beat them. Open style only at the back going forward we are still poor making same mistakes slow build up players holding onto ball too long not getting quick balls into box. We should be counter attacking teams quickly when we tried to do this look how it works the same with putting balls in box quickly yet we like to play this side to side and backwards passing game which is dull and gets possessions stats up but nothing else. More excuses from you so we was missing one player who is not a "super star" it would have made no difference the tactics plus selection was all wrong. This game we should have played a pairing of something like Hughes and Milo also Mitchell needs dropping Ried looked better when he came of the bench the other day why not give him a chance. The manager is not even trying other players out this is whats annoying. If the manager doesn't get positive results in the next few games really do need to consider other options (SP appears to like Dyche and we had been linked with him before could be the next manager)

No problem, and I would say that Roy did not have the talent we have now.

i think we would have lost yesterday with Roy in charge but only by the one goal, sure, were easier on the eye now and we play "nicer" football but our points tally are no better than Roy would have amassed.

When reading the thread title - I thought it was insinuating bring back Roy to help with the defensive shape and set up at the training ground. Could be an idea. Defensive coach part time!

FFS, our first bad result of the season and we get this trollop…. I personally was one of the few Roy fans on here appreciating that he did a good job with an aged squad - however, it was bloody dull to watch - we all know that. Fans were saying ‘I don’t mind us losing as long as it’s entertaining’ - bar the last two away games, we’ve been exciting and scoring goals. Can’t please everyone. On the whole it’s tough to argue that PV has done anything but a fantastic job. We look thin in CM and have no LB cover - is that PV’s fault or recruitment? I’d agree that trying to fit in Zaha/Eze/Olise/Ayew/striker in the same 11 appears an odd move, but equally it could eventually prove to be a stroke of genius if he can find a way to effectively accommodate all those players in the same line up. I for one am very happy with the PV and the squads progress so far. We’ll finish in our usual mid table position this season but we’ll have some decent performances along the way, rather than grinding out undeserved points like we did under Roy. The squad is young but improving with experience. We’re going in the right direction

I was at the game - I can assure you all the Palace team looked gutted with both their performances and result. It could be the ‘reality kick’ they need to ensure we push on and get some more points before the World Cup starts. PV is doing a great job with the squad available to him…

We’re going in the right direction In the last 5 seasons we have finished between 11th and 14th in the PL and I for one believe we will finish below 14th this campaign, in actual fact I would not be surprised if we ended the season in the bottom 3.

The squad is young but improving with experience. We’re going in the right direction Well said. Like you, I defended Roy to the hilt on here. His methods were a means to an end, with the objective of keeping us competitive without any major investment in players. But with the loosening of the purse strings, it was time to move forward in a different direction. PV's preferred style of play has been a radical departure and was bound to have some bumps in the road. Now is not the time to get misty eyed about someone that the majority were glad to see the back of. Pundits, Media, Fans and PV himself are of the view that the squad is lightweight. The known issue in midfield was highlighted on Saturday where we just didn't compete. At the risk of repeating myself, Potter's Brighton team struggled for the first two seasons under him. In the third season, with the help of some decent recruitment, they flourished. I'm expecting similar from Palace.

By the final season of Roy's tenure I was not enjoying watching Palace at all. Even the wins often felt like defeats because the performances were so negative. He was the pragmatic manager we needed due to our limited investment in the squad, but to suggest anyone would want him back baffles me. Everton was a shocker, but it's the only game we've lost to a team outside the top four. If it really is about results and not performances then Vieira is doing a great job. If it is about performances then I think you would struggle to find someone who doesn't think we are playing better football under Vieira.
