Hi Badger - Spoken to the wife -
Weather wise best time to go is Spring & Autumn, Summer is very hot 40+ and can be uncomfortable unless thats your thing -
Tashkent is obviously the capital-with plenty of good food & nightlife, but to get a glimpse of the real flavour also visit Samaarkand, Bukhara & Khivaa (regional centres of tourism) - National Dish is of course Plov (Rice & Lamb) Plov varies in taste across the country, lots of hotspots where men cook the plov in large pots to bring it to the plate in that regions traditional taste -Shish Kebabs are also plentiful (similar to Turkey with lots of variety) - People very friendly -

Hi DE thanks for the info it confirms my own view about the best time to go. I use a company that offers guided tours for small groups so I will check on the places that you mention are included.

I love Islamic art and would love to visit Iran (when it's safe). however my fellow travelers tell me that Uzbekistan is also known for its mosques and art and culture. Looking forward to it assuming I can afford it my pension is taking a battering at the moment.

I have been to Iran about 20 times so when the time comes if your thinking of venturing out that way hit me up, I have enjoyed every visit there & well looked after by hospitable folks - the only thing that's a little harem scarem are some of the inland flights with some of the aircraft having seen better days
(sanctions have prevented them replacing them & of course some of the maintenance may well have suffered a bit)
