As above the fine is based on your income and the amount over the limit.

Normally the limit is everywhere, printed on the road/signs. Where was it and have you checked to see if any of the signs have been turned around by hooli's.

I got done for a bus lane but all the signs were turned and the markings had worn away. (hackney) Two months later they had fixed the signs and re marked the lines.

As a service engineer driving in london is an utter nightmare!

Got done for being in a yellow box near Plough Lane, Wimbledon driving into the sun, you couldnt see the worn out lines, but you could from their high camera angle. I complained, got nowhere, lines got painted a few weeks later.

Just got a Notice of Intention to prosecute for doing 35mph in a 20mph zone. Didn't have a clue it was 20 and not 30mph on the road I was on and got caught by a mobile camera device.

Anyone had similar and what can I expect? Googling it suggest anything between 4-6 points and fine from £100-1000.

Out of interest how did you manage that?
30 in a 20 is understandable but 35 is like oops.

Does anybody know how many miles over the limit will trigger a penalty , 32 in a 30 zone ? Or 72 in a 70 zone ? Or more ?

I was under the impression it was >10% so 34 in a 30, 45 in 40 etc however where I’ve got that from I’ve no idea. I was also led to believe that most cars with a digital display these days will slightly exaggerate for your benefit. Could be urban myth territory there again however.

Speed Awareness Course (if available) still costs £100.00, but comes without points on licence. I believe that the police do not make the time to enforce 20 MPH, but doing over 33 anywhere where there are no higher limit signs can cause police to take action against. Do be aware of local accident black spots.

I believe it’s 10% + 2 so 36 in a 30 will trigger it but 35 shouldn’t. In a 20, 24 won’t but 25 will. This allows for the camera calibration and a car speedometer calibration not having to be nasa accurate.
Not sure who decides if a speed awareness course is applicable but it will offer it up and the computer might say no. You can do a speed awareness course once every three years but 35 in a 20 is probably going to incur a fine and points. It could also affect your insurance so inform them asap once you know the damage. They can void it on a claim if you don’t !!!

I'm sorry I don't understand.

If you have read that as I imagine you have, I hope you are neither an English or Maths teacher for anybody.

Be prepared for a ban.
50% over the speed limit is why they "intend to prosecute".
At best you will likely get 6 points and a fine based on income and you may even have to attend court.
I got done for 86mph in a 60 mph limit a few years ago - court attendance, 6 points and a £750 fine payable immediately - no easy terms!
I was threatened with a 28 day ban which I would have accepted but they decided that they wanted me to suffer as I already had 3 points on my licence.
Driving for 3 years with 9 points is difficult - there are so many cameras just waiting to send you to 12 points!
Good luck!
