Zzzzzzzzzz

That was a pledge by one of the Leave groups which Nigel Farage distanced himself from. However it was never a pledge by the government because wait for it..

The government backed the Remain campaign.

In any case funding to the NHS has increased massively since that pledge and of course we had COVID which nobody could see was going to throw a spanner in the works and we threw billions at that.

As the girl in Frozen sings "Let it go let it go.."

Labour's " Red Bus " mantra on energy companies have 170bn in profits, this is an assumptive figure , so totally misleading and they know it.This number was tweeted out by Starmer, Miliband and Rayner .

Labour's own number on additional windfall tax revenue was 8 billion, which a lot of cash but less than 10% of the likely cost of the energy bail out which Truss is likely to announce.

If there is an alternative to borrowing then someone please say what it is.

This in economic terms is war time event, we need to look forward not back.

You cannot shrink an economy to health.

Labour are of course unhappy that the Govt is adapting it's policies to the situation, which may well include policies Labour have been asking for.

They realise that in a couple of years if things have improved voters won't care who claims authorship of the solutions

I've never read such utter tosh! The energy bailout is £140 billion. Shrinking your way out to economic health is the usual method, that is why interest rates are increased in order to squeeze out inflation.

Absolutely correct. But in fact not only the government but nobody at all made that so-called pledge. A pledge is a promise, and that slogan didn't promise anything; it was merely a suggestion, or an exhortation - "let's fund our NHS instead".

A suggestion painted on a bus in giant letters!

We’ll face stagflation so good luck with shrinking the economy through a recession, and cost push inflation from highly essential goods and heat and vehicle fuel.
