ah yes, well the Tashkent accent of Uzbek is so very melodic on the ear. Much nicer than the guttaral rumblings of the Muynoq accent.

I do converse in English (Many will disagree !) and I have had conversations in Spanish with locals however I am far from fluent in the language.

In a Spanish bar in mainland Spain, there are two aged local gentlemen who can speak English but we converse in their native tongue.I not 'Au Fait' with every word they utter but I get the gist.A great deal of broken Spanish emanates from my mouth !!!!

fluent French, Spanish & irish. A good basic working knowledge of 1 Celtic language ( irish) and 1 Germanic language(Dutch). Got a smattering of words in German, Japanese, Catalan & Breton.

Faraway languages (& Basque) are just too difficult to be bothered. So no Chinese or Urdu. Tonality is a feckin nightmare.

I would love to learn Frisian & Sard as a way to tap into the Old World. Or Norwegian Bokmal to tap into my tiny bit of Viking DNA.

Conlangs are interesting for beginners....Lingua Franca Nova being a favourite.

but mostly, Eagles, all you need is the link below.....I speak a thousand languages, and all of them are English.

Some of the other big World languages are predominantly spoken by poor people (working with a shovel in a field) , and also limited to one or two regions of the planet. So why bother ? All the James Bond villians & Top Fighter Pilots seem to speak English. The shyte Fighter Pilots probably only speak Korean, Egyptian or Nepalese.

For Science, Technology, the Arts, Politics & diplomacy, Education, Religion, the Military, law , Cinema or even drug-dealing....its English all the way.

The foreign stuff is good...like Foreign cinema or Krav Maga or a Buddhist retreat or a Sushi restaurant....but really, its all just cultural tourism. For the serious stuff, Air Traffic Control & brain surgery....its English.

The link below fascinates me. Any speakers of any Celtic languages on HOL will be familiar at the disconnect to more mainstream Germanic or Romance languages. And then you discover that Arabic has all the old familiar Grammar Rules. It all seems to date back to the first populations coming into Europe about ten or twenty thousand years ago, moving up through Turkey and bringing inflected prepositions with them.

PV. Impressive. You come somewhat disguised with your Italian nic name and Dutch flag. Making a massive assumption that you are Dutch or part Dutch, you guys seem to have a real ability with speaking multiple languages.
With your expansive knowledge of languages, why is that? I have worked with/ friends with so many Dutch people who all speak 3 or 4 languages.
So valuable although I do think as technology progresses we may find we will only need to learn one language and be chipped the rest.
Modern world etc.

There are two types of Spanish, European and South American, in the Canaries it is South American, if you said, Donde esta la estación del Guagua, (where is the bus station) in mainland Spain they wouldn't know what you were talking about.

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

There are of course also varieties of Spanish and dialects.
For instance, in the Balearics 'Catalan' is spoken - If one travels to Menorca, one can see 'Platjes' instead of 'Playas', Mahon the capital is 'Mao' and I think that a supermarket is 'Supermerkat' rather than 'Supermercado'.

Catalan is just about the largest language in Europe that does not have its own State. Its basically the same as Valenciano & Mallorcin (the Balearics)...but my favourite is a village in NorthEast Sardinia that speaks Catalan. Alghero.

Personally i would love to see Catalan independence, cos the EU hates the idea. Catalexit.
