HOL is awash with persons of erudition, those who possess intellectual acuity and auras of grandiloquence. They are bastions of good sense, knowledge and insight and I for one would be extremely disappointed if we lost these treasured souls who truly add value to this esteemed site.

He may go, but he will never leave, I would be of the opinion that he may delete his account, but he will still view this message board.

I have been a member of this site for what is probably 20 years. I have watched and supported Palace for 60 years. Regrettably I am going to be leaving this site in a few days time. (Yes I know I won't be missed).

Living out of London for the last 50 years I have always enjoyed finding any Palace chat I can with fellow supporters. This site has been wonderful for that. Regrettably, the last few years I believe this site has changed, that as we have had season after season in the top division significant numbers of people here seem to have lost all sense of reason and all connection with reality.

In my view this site should be about pleasure and enjoyment, sharing the ups and downs of supporting Palace with all the other lunatics like me. Instead it has become a whingefest, especially at transfer window time. "Why doesn't Parrish open his wallet?". "why don't we buy a,b,c,.......................z?", "why have we not unloaded s*** player a,b,c....?", and on and on.

There is no pleasure here on this site for me now. I will wish you all well.

Up The Palace!!!

I remember witnessing yet another dire Palace performance at Selhurst in years gone by, when a very loud fan in the Main Stand shouted in frustration towards the Directors' Box:

"OI! NOADES!! GET YOUR CHEQUEBOOK OUT!!!"

So, you see, nothing much ever changes.

As with all such sites one witnesses a smorgasbord of opinions, vacuous platitudes and rhetorical panache. On occasions high-grade waffle is interspersed with execrable bile, declamatory posts and members lacerated, facing shot and shell.

However one is also subjected to great bouts of insight and knowledge, humour and positivity and contributions which essay great wells of oratory.

I made the decision twice to take a sabbatical from HOL concluding that I had become a varmint and not adding any value to this cherished site, however I was honoured and humbled to receive enquiries as to my well-being and messages of support much to my surprise.
Should I be of this mindset again, I will take the same course of action as I have no desire to outstay my welcome.

One of your best soloquays Willo. And I add my small tribute to all HOLers by wagering that most of them understand what you're on about.

Adios midlandspalace. Perhaps in one last post you'd like to give us your thoughts on the merits of 4-3-3?

Sorry you feel that way, I do agree this site has changed over the last 10 years. Expectations have increased as have our years in the prem.

I think the window did end up a bit disappointing, largely because the club did not signal business was done but we were subjected to PV on several occasions saying we needed more bodies.

Personally I will always (and always have) take a glass half empty view of our chances because I have seen our club throw away so many opportunities over the years that I have just had too much disappointment. Expecting the worst means I am rarely disappointed and regularly thrilled at what we do achieve.

Good Heavens, I am just a mere mortal amongst the erudite luminaries who grace this cherished site.
I am a mere old creaky whose antenna, on many occasions, does not pick up all the channels.

I don't make many contributions, but when I do it's usually because I find some interest, amusement, agreement or disagreement with the thread.

There are some posters who I find exceedingly offensive with their comments and others who are impressively knowledgeable.

Even if I don't contribute, I read the posts avidly because if they are not directly related to the Palace I know the person who has written is a fan of the football club I have supported since the mid 50s. So a kindred spirit.

midlandspalace, I know some posters are frustrating, annoying and, on the face of it, ridiculously stupid, but it's no reason to throw in the towel. In the words of the song by Them: 'Baby Please Don't Go'.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
