Clyne for me, extra pace, but there is not a lot to choose, for me AWB is a massive improvement on both, especially if we are going to play WBs sometimes. When i've watched Man U AWB is a lot more comfortable in a back 4. When he's played RWB he has been all over the place. I thought his forward play would improve at Man U - more opportunity, an ex winger etc, but i don't think it has. Really surprised some people think AWB will improve our back 5. In a back 4 IMHO he is better than both NC and JW but i'd rather we focussed on a midfielder ATM

It depends on who we are playing and what formation.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I understand your thinking, however Olise does have a proclivity to cut inside on to his favoured left-foot and an overlapping attacking full-back could bring a different dimension to our play.

Oh yes I don't deny that. My thinking would be however until we are a 'top 8' team any flying full back may start to then receive flak for a lack of defensive quality. Kyle Walker, TAA, Dani Alves, etc etc all got that as stars who've won many an accolade. Could just be down to subjective preference of course,

However, clearly having played from the ages of say 8 to 18 further up the pitch this should be of value e.g. he should be able to put over a decent first time cross. Unfortunately this part of his game doesn't appear to have improved

Back to the OP's topic and quite frankly, I'm glad we've got both of them. They hardly cost us anything (relatively speaking in PL terms) and both are competent if not top rate PL players. IMO Ward is the better defender and Clyne the better offensive player, so it would be horses for courses for me depending on the opposition and how PV wants to set the team up.

Villa was Ward's best game in a very very very long time. Generally I much prefer Clyne, but Ward has the Jersey on merit if only judging match day showings
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

As much as I like and respect Ward, Clyne any day for me. His passing and speed miles above JW.
