It was funny yesterday we were all on our feet for every shooting chance - until somehow Hughes got himself into a position the only Eduardo would have dreamed of !

When we all realized who it was the crowd were “wow how’d he get in there”.The ball to him so perfect so Midas - the crowd went crazy

Hughes shat his pants even before he passed it to the keeper

Hughes you need to do more running into space than just being a one touch safe bet

I think you’ve answered your own question, it’s a no brainer really

It’s Big Pats conundrum, this is what I think…

Mateta struggles to complete 90 minutes and runs out of steam and is more of an impact player. Where Edouard can go the distance, but lacks in confidence when it comes to scoring. We need someone who has the finishing guile and the legs to last the full match.

Yes sorry I see your point now, but even if maybe Mateta does struggle for a full 90 minutes I think just for his goals in this calendar year and his all round contribution he deserves to start.

Good thing about it Monkey is the 5 player sub option now. I thought this would benefit just the bigger clubs, but yesterday big Pat used 4 or 5 substitutes. I still think we will land another striker and it looks like a must now.

For all his goals in Scotland I see Edouarde more of an inside forward than a main striker . His general play is fine and shows a good understanding within the team
For me he is not someone who will score loads in the EPL a poor header and doesnt look for the corners when shooting

Mateta is a striker , just not a great one yet ,time will tell who turns out to be the better , my money is on Plange .

Mateta's issue is that PV has slightly changed the system which was only really apparent from now having not played a top 6 side.

The wingers are playing a lot narrower and the striker is playing deeper. The striker is more playing like the top of a diamond behind the two wingers/inside forwards.

The system suits Edouard more, it'll get Zaha a lot more chances like his first goal on Saturday and it'll really suit Olise. What it doesn't suit as much is Mateta being a focal point which is where I can understand Mateta being used off the bench as we go more defensive later in games and tuck the wingers back into a traditional midfield.

2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds
7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

Thanks for that Ambrose - an interesting take. PV wants Wilf to score more goals this season (I think he said towards the end of last year that Wilf should be getting 20+ a season) and perhaps this tweaking of the system is aimed at helping him to achieve it. However, Edouard does need to be contributing goals as well for his own confidence.

Maybe they are thinking of turning Eduoard into an attacking midfielder like Newcastle have with Joelinton, they've transformed a shot shy unconfident attacker into a confident good attacking midfielder, which is something we could do with, would save a lot of money and will build his confidence as well, he's still young enough to adapt to a new roll so could be worth a go.

I understand Eduoard can play on the left flank allowing Zaha to push centrally into the oppo's danger area.

Mateta for me we give him a longer run he could score between 15 to 20 goals Edouard for me always looks better when not so central

A striker who is going to get you 15/20 goals a season gets goals like Mateta's goal on Saturday. He is more likely to get more goals in my opinion than Eduado because he gets in positions that matter

Yes, I agree. I've thought for some time that I'd love to see him attacking defences from deeper. He really does have the close control and pace to be an eye-opener in that role.
