Not a great afternoon in my local. There's only so many Flowers of Scotland you can put up with.

Tries scored by the Scottish Highlanders - Huw Jones and Van Der Merwe. Local heroes.

Since there are only about 12 people who play the game in Scotland they have to beef the numbers up a bit and it costs too much to fly them in from New Zealand all the time.

I don't blame any particular team in rugby but it's quite astonishing at the levels it is currently. Ireland had a team fielding seven foreign players in the first fifteen a couple of years ago. It's still a third of the team - they don't have Irish relatives either. I guess everyone learnt it from New Zealand.

Hold on - what about England?

Tuilagi (Samoa), Cokanasiga (Fiji), the Vunipola brothers (born in Australia and NZ to Tongan parents), Marcus Smith (Philippines), Rokoduguni (Fiji).

True - but I do believe most actually have an English parent. That's totally different to merely naturalising them. The Vunipola's were actually brought over by Wales and then decided on England - quite hilariously.
In all fairness, we did also say all teams do it now. In my own opinion, parent (grandparent not sure) fair enough. Three years in a country (now five) a bit silly.
I'm not an expert on it, just off the top of my head. I can say with some certainty that Ireland looked where they felt they were weak and then brought players over - a bit of a piss take in my opinion, and also changed World Rugby's rules - so in their opinion too.

I was going to start a thread about this subject, two games yesterday two try scorers James Lowe and van der merwe both playing for national teams due to 3 years residency rules, can't see northern hemisphere players being good enough to get into any of the the southern hemisphere teams so it's only benefiting the northern hemisphere teams, rules are too relax and before long the six nations will be like watching the southern hemisphere reserve teams with a few locals who are just about good enough to get picked for there country of birth.

They just changed the residency rules to five years, mainly due to the Ireland situation. But obviously all have done it to some extent. The rule was three years previously.

I'm thinking Borthwick needs a bit of time. England pretty poor at the moment. Not sure what players they could bring in.
Ireland likely to win Grand Slam.

England the worst I can remember. A laughing stock. Total rebuild required and Borthwick is getting nowhere. I would be chasing O'Gara with a golden cheque book.

They were dreadful today, although a lot of key players missing. Can't see Borthwick still being around this time next year.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Borthwick should never have been appointed in the first place!
