Weird how there's no 'thanks and all the best' comms at all from the club. He's played a big role over the last few years.

Benteke's departure was acknowledged in a tribute on the CPFC website, though, whereas there doesn't seem to be any mention of Kouyaté.

By "strange" I meant it's odd that we let slip the kind of player we should be looking to sign.

i'm surprised the club could not agree a compromise - for example a 1 year deal with an extra year clause based on x appearances made in the season.

He has got his 2 year deal now, so well done to him, however, would be surprised if Forest hasn't inserted a relegation clause.

Whilst i like Kouyate he was well paid at Palace and did the same to West Ham as he did to ask. He was in the last year of his contract and asked for a big pay rise. WHU said no, clearly CPFC said yes.

There is no loyalty in football!!!

Not quite the same, as WHUFC received the best part of £10 million for his services, whereas we received zilch.

Strange one. Thought he was tremendous last season and also provided excellent cover at CB. Terrific signing for Forest to get an experienced versatile player like that. Will no doubt slot straight into their starting 11.

I like to think he would have stayed if offered a 2 year contract which would have matched Forests offer.

This not offering more than 1 year contracts to over 30's seems high risk. If we lose Cheick Doucouré to injury it now looks very ominous.

I can only assume the club has plans to bring in replacements. At the moment it feels like we've gone a bit backwards. Let's judge it when the transfer window closes.

Wise words, otherwise we could end up with egg on our face come 2nd September

The only reason I can think of for allowing him to go is that we have a replacement in mind. He is more mobile than Milivojevic and considerably more aggressive than Schlupp or Riedewald, the only real comparator is Jimmy Mc as Hughes is a bit lightweight to compare, but Macca is constantly injured now so we are definitely short in the engine room. Doucoure cannot do it on his own.

I can’t help but think that all the time we are short in the muscle positions it means we have to play Ayew instead of Olise because of his defensive efforts and clearly there are not many of us who want that.

Disappointing considering his performance level, versatility and physical presence over the last three years in particular.
Effectively you've got two players and size / height which we look lacking in IMO.

Kouyate is a great athlete and a physical presence. But he can't pass and isn't great when he's in possession and under pressure. The club may have simply decided he didn't justify his high wages on that basis, especially as he may only have played a bit part this season. So far Doucoure looks far superior in terms of his passing and control and doesn't seem shy of a tackle either. We still need another central midfielder with a bit of bite though.

sorry typo/predictive txt.

The difference is that WHU didn't let him run down his contract, so they had the extension discussions with 12 months remaining. It was slightly different for us as 4 years on he's now 32 so had minimal re-sale value. However, it does show that maybe we could have had the contract negotiations 12 months ago - at 31 maybe we could have got a decent fee.
However, with the African Cup approaching it must have limited any possible transfer fee so maybe Palace felt it was more valuable to keep him for a further year.

All speculation. Just a shame that the club wanted him, he wanted to stay yet we couldn't agree a compromise. Maybe our medical team had some input re a 2 year deal. He's played a lot of football over the last 10 or so years and his body has taken a lot of punishment.

He must be ok physically has passed his Forest medical and they have given him a 2 year deal.

My recollection of the recent policy Palace have adopted on anyone over 30 is to take it season by season and only offer 1 year; in the round, that seems a sensible approach to me and did not create problems with Tomkins, Clyne, McArthur etc.

I would have thought there was the opportunity to be a bit creative with Kouyate whilst not breaching the general policy; for whatever reason however, it has not been possible to find middle ground.

The other player who comes to mind where this might become an issue is Wilf who I believe is currently 29; maybe he will still be under 30 when/if he negotiates a new contract which might avoid the issue.
