I can see us 12 - 14. Unfortunately I just can't see us replacing Gallagher effectively. His goals, assists and general work rate/pressing will be a huge loss. Where are those other goal contributions going to come from? Probably not Doucoure, Plante or Ebowei, with respect. We already look much better defensively with Guehi and Andersen - it's the other end of the field that needed addressing and so far, we haven't done it.

I'm going to say 13th!

12 - 14th. CG is a big loss but Eze looks Sharp, the younger players are another year on and Wilf looks really on it. I think he will thrive on becoming the best player again and picking up more MOM awards with CG gone. And another cup run would be nice.

Agreed, apart from the word "mediocrity". Hopefully our performances will be anything but mediocre.

We have to remember that other clubs are also strengthening their squads and some outside of the Big 6 (who always spend big) with serious money.

The question is who do we see finishing below us?

For me, it's the 3 promoted teams, Everton, Leeds, Southampton, Brentford, Brighton and possibly Leicester and Wolves so 10th to 12th place for us.

Perfect summing up

I expect us to stay pretty safe all season but end up in 14th/15th place.
CG's loss will be huge because of his work rate and how often he turned defence into attack by pressing and we don't have anyone else bar JMac who can do that - do we??
Eze is a lovely player but you won't him do CG's job - it isn't in him.
With Olise missing to start with as well we will do well to hold our own in the first few games.
I hope to be proved wrong as always.

I tend to agree, it’s going to be second season syndrome for Vieira, we surprised a few team last year. Teams know what expect and will set up accordingly, we have a very tough start, they could go either way, catch some of the big teams before they get going or we could have no points after 4 games.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I think we have a better midfield than last season (as Eze only played a handful).

IMO Doucoure, Eze +1, are better than Connor, Kouyate + 1.

From (albeit a disjointed preseason) I'd assume PV will start with Doucoure, Eze and Jeff. Good combination there.

A 5-10 goal pressing midfielder: 8th
A 0-5 goal pressing midfielder 12th
No pressing midfielder 15th

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

The need for another midfielder is somewhat pressing therefore.

I am somewhat wary. The midfield for me is the key area. Last season a loanee rather embarrassed the other midfielders through ability, effort, and determination. Now he has gone and it all depends on how Doucoure fits into the picture. McArthur will most likely through age and accumulated injuries play only 50% of the time; Hughes really needs to step up to the plate but I feel there's not much about him.
Getting the midfield to click is the most important thing, the defence and forward line picks itself.

Currently we have a team that is looking at a relegation scrap. Can all change before the window closes but given where we currently are I think this will be a difficult season.
We aren't quite good enough to consistently compete with the top 8 or 9 teams and we haven't improved the team with respect to our Achilles heal of defending set-pieces so the rest of the league will play for that. Usual Palace season of valiant defeats against the big-boys and unlucky defeats against the likes of Brentford & Forest.

Could all change completely with a good signing or two.

Well, the fixture list hasn't been kind to us with the start we have.

How many points we gain from the opening 5/6 games could inform our season.

For a club like Palace it's easy to lose 2/3 in a row but much harder to win 2/3 in a row.

I think too much emphasis is being placed on the loss of Gallagher. Ebs has had a pre season and if Decoure proves to be as good as some of the hype, then although different types of player than CG, PV has the resources to have a decent midfield in place.

I think we look like a club moving forwards. I don't see the same in the likes of Wolves, Leicester and even Brighton. The challenge is for us to improve on last season while hopefully taking advantage of those types of clubs and finishing above them.

As the worlds worst tipster, I'm predicting that we fail to do so.

I love this site full off positives < Positive we are going down , positive we wont get higher , positive club doing it wrong ,

Would love for once i come on this site and see people feeling very good about our team , and the steps forward we took last year is things to come , I see us top 10 maybe 7th , I cant find one reason why we cant , we have the players to do this and more important the squad to back us up , last season was the 1st time I looked at our bench and thought that is best we had for sometime , and this season it will be stronger , so for once try it say we do have a good team and could do well , its good for the sole .
