I wonder if Wolves will accept a Benteke + cash offer for MGW??

If we give them Benteke, plus offer them a little more cash on top of what they're asking, maybe a deal can be done??

Now that would be a win-win!

I genuinely like Benteke and think when we give him service he will score, and think he has the best hold up play and link up play then the other forwards we have. That being said I don’t think Vieria fancies him, and he is on over 100k a week. On that basis I would be happy to see him go if he is not going to start, as that resource can be used elsewhere.

Would 100% not a replacement forward though. Not convinced Mateta and Eduoard are enough firepower., and don’t ever want to see ayew play up front again. Also not convinced zaha is best suited through the middle

I think you are half right. We would have to give Wolves Benteke and cash plus pay the taxi fare.

Hard to argue with much of that.

He is of course a figure of fun and some vitriol these days but I find it very very hard to 'hate on him'. I think were he on a half or third the wages and available on a free many clubs would see him as a no brainer signing. For us however he has been overpaid, long, long underperformed and a saga sooner best forgotten. I don't think he's a bad person or what have you or even a bad footballer but he just lost his way and has been unable to recapture it. Thought he was an unbelievable signing at the time but I also get the feeling perhaps he is not a 'football loving' footballer, as insane a proposition or concept it might seem for most but it does happen.

With the options of Wilf, Edouard and JP, I think we have a few who can play that role but I too would love 'Palace's no.9/10/11' to play in there. A first name on teamsheet, crowd favourite, Roy of the Rovers, prolific forward up front is of course the dream but just how much that aligns to reality is another question.

Strangely the one season that Ayew played centrally as our number 9 he scored 9 goals and won player of the year!
I admit that he hasn't looked likely to repeat that since though.

I think you may be right. He is often referred to as a gentle giant and you rarely see him show any real fight or passion. JPM may not be technically as good but he seems to really upset defenders, while for all his faults the one thing you can never accuse Wilf of is lacking a desire to win at all costs. He showed more fight in a friendly with Gillingham than Benteke has shown for the best part of four years. Put him in a team where his job is to head the ball and he's still one of the best in my view, but we haven't played that way since Allardyce really. Wolves have some great technicians in their midfield who could drop a ball on a penny, so I actually think he could do a job for them, but would he really want to move back to the Midlands? I doubt Bournemouth could afford his wages.

I like Big Ben and if he leaves I will be sorry to see him go as I believe he is [ apart from Zaha ] our best forward .
People seem to be obsessed with his salary . I am sure that if you went to your boss and asked for £100000 a year , knowing you are only worth £80000 , and the boss agrees you would walk with a big grin on your face . Is it your fault for getting paid to much or the boss for agreeing to it ?
When he leaves he he will start scoring loads of goals and on these pages people will be moaning because he did not do the same for us . Could that be because we did not play to his strengths ?

I agree, I thought Benteke was good at the start of last season. Initially he was being picked to lead the line, for the first time in a side on the front foot. I think he got 4 goals by about November, which could have got him around 10 if he'd played the full season as a starter - which isn't too bad! Chelsea have amazing players and really struggle to get any of them to score.

Disagree about Zaha though, I think he could be a good central forward. At least the best that we're likely to get. From a financial perspective, we already own him. To buy another forward costs ££££££. We've done well recruiting attacking youth from the Championship, so filling an Inside Left position could be easier than a CF.

He is strong and physical, but likely to lose his pace (if he's not doing so already). His finishing is decent and he can use his left foot reasonably well. There were times last season when he seemed to slow us down. For years he's been this counter attacker who's had to hold the ball up etc, but we are different now. He might now be better as a focal point, with Olise and others to be the menaces out wide. Zaha at 30 can't be the Zaha at 20, he needs to evolve to stay relevant, and I think he has and will continue to do so.

If they want Benteke - let them have him by doing a swap deal for Adama Traore ....?
