Southgate is and always will be a crap manager/player, but does anyone really care about international football, for me its unimportant. I only care about the mighty PALACE

is the correct answer. Southgate will never help us kick politics out of football. Another Gary Linekar.

A miserable game to watch. A bit harsh to put the blame on Southgate though. He's done a reasonable job in his time and will be replaced after Qatar.

Some of those players, already mentioned, looked either out of their depth or out of sorts. Couldn't decide which. For sure they won't figure much in the important games.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Poor selection, poor tactics, players out of position. All seen previously against Italy and against Croatia. Not a good manager, not even an average one. Some kid who had played FIFA twice, could have picked a better side and tactics.

My comments are not knee jerk to yesterday but it is clear that Southgate lacks tactical flair, invention or courage when push come to shove.
We could have beaten Croatia in the World Cup and we should have beaten Italy in the Euros but he stuck his fingers in his ears and sang la la la instead of being bold.
Let him manage the players and the press and let a real coach/tactician make the on field decisions.

Southgate did not have the CV worthy of such lofty office.

seems to have been a political appointment. And he got found out.

Good player.

However, as England manager he rarely seems to miss an opportunity to tell us his woke politics and how he thinks others should think...something I don't remember from other England managers and he's now a part of a highly politicised game that can brook no criticism of itself.

People think he's a good manager but he's had a highly talented bunch of players to pick from and in my view has been distinctly average.

But he's the FA's 'yes man' and darling, saying exactly what they want presented and that goes a long way in this game.

I'd be peed off if I was obliged to play a meaningless game in a vaguely hostile stadium when I'd rather be on the beach. They're allowed a holiday, surely.

Someone has said that all teams will lose from time to time. we have to hope that the defeat will lead to a team that is up to it. Agree that at the moment there is too much football and the lads should be on the beach (hopefully not being transported by Easyjet).

There, sadly, remains the naming of a team that will win the World Cup. Putting PALACE first, I think we have enough English players to put 15 into the squad.

I'm no fan of Southgate, but if you Look at the numbers, it's hard to argue against him; a Final and Semi final in our last 2 major tournaments is better than any manager I can remember.
He's refreshed the national game, and injected pace, youth and opportunity into the team. He's made it clear that form gets you in the door and remwards good performances - everthing that's been lacking since 1998!

It's when you look at the style of play and those opponents that we've played, that his looks less impressive. I don't actually think huge amount has changed on the pitch. We still struggle to break teams down in the final third and are still relying on the odd player to get us through games (without Sterling last Euros how far would we have got?)
If you look at The last 2 tournaments, the Euros in particular, We got lucky with the draws, and, Germany aside, avoided the big names. Saying that, right Up until half time of the final, his Tactics were spot on throughout the tournament... and its not even like he played the same 11 each time. It was only when Plan A needed changing(against the first top quality opposition - coincidence?) that it all fell apart.

Looking back at those 2 tournaments, we've blatantly improved. We actually looked good to watch at times in the last one. Is he still improving?

Look, I don't like him and I think he's well overachieved, but to get rid now after an experimental League of nations game in a World Cup year is crazy talk.

He's an upgrade on Sven, McClaten and Fabio but, then again, so is the sh1t on my shoes. I won't mention Roy out of misguided Palace loyalty but he was bloody awful too. When you think of why Hoddle got sacked, probably makes some of sense of Southgate.

Just wish he'd picked U21 squad, at least we'd see a bit of commitment. Maguire must have serious dirt on Southgate to keep getting picked because knowone can see a reason for his selection, not even deluded manure fans.
