Not sure any of them would be catchy enough. " Defund the BBC ". Works far better for me because, when all is said and done, I suspect the vast majority of the UK population is far more concerned with being forced to pay for an organisation that despises them than wars in far off places. I suspect the vast majority of the UK population is also concerned about enemies within who support Russian fascism.

Lost me on (some of) family values, "There is no climate crisis" and other such rubbish. Hooked me on free speech, PR and other bits. Too much of the American hard right in there for my taste. I suspect much to love for many on here, but as usual I am a man who likes bits of every party but not enough to make a clear choice. Damn, and their manifesto started so well!

I suspect much to love for many on here, but as usual I am a man who likes bits of every party but not enough to make a clear choice. Damn, and their manifesto started so well! It bundles in some decent ideas anyone would agree with, with the usual b0llocks designed for anyone tossing a coin and deciding which arbitrary 'culture war' package deal they want to sign up for instead of actually using their brain. Of course the most hilarious thing about these contrived tribal separations is that people feel they simply 'must' choose the polar opposite view of their imaginary opponent even when many of these bundled beliefs have sod all to do with one another. You see it with every big issue in the news.. An initial semi thought out view by many quickly replaced by their respective 'woke' or 'dim dark' contingent consensus view, packaged as a scholarly take. The biggest irony though perhaps is that in the 'real world' as in opening your door, walking out of it and talking to people, you don't often meet many 'left far' or 'far right', just ordinary quite distinct people trying to get by as we all do. The internet snuffs out much of that. An unreality replacing many normal, considerate, decent aspects of human nature and replacing them with an unworkable wish list for the emotionally led.

The SDP [Link] present many sensible, decent, non-extreme policies that would be of great benefit.

The ideals of this party are in accord with many people in this country. Could it be just as much of a dangerous game to perpetually strategically act to keep one party out of power (and hence keep the other major party in) rather then create momentum behind a party or position that you actually believe in though? By which I mean, strategy has it helped or hindered bring about a country that is much aligned with your outlook longterm? It's a tricky one though I appreciate. I certainly see merit in getting behind a single issue party that forces the hand of the big two (as happened with Brexit) but see how the Heritage Party and the like might turn people off by offering a their 'buffet' of beliefs that likely water down support instead of offering a central message. The other alternative of course would be to campaign to change to a form of proportional representation. That's of course imperfect and involves compromise down the like between parties, but at least is much more likely to get people to cast a vote for beliefs they actually hold which may in term push certain ideas to the fore. Right now, the system encourages people to choose from one or two options really, neither of which appear be particularly well aligned with what voters for either party are looking for.

There are no 'enemies within' on the right, just what are they going to do exactly George? You seem to spend most of your time attacking the right. Fascism? You seem to think fascism just means authoritarianism. Edited by Stirlingsays (30 May 2022 11.15am)

Martin can you tell me what “woke” means. I thought it originated in black community USA and strongly linked to Black Lives Matter. Has it been hijacked to suit other views? I'll give it a go. 'Woke' is a term those who have generally failed in life use to justify their anger at themselves, their ignorance or generally the lack of attention they would otherwise receive for their personalities of achievements. It is designed to fuel a deep seated, delusional belief that all is wrong with the world and that is the reason for their ignorance and insignificance in it as opposed to identifying any self-responsibility, thus they are woke [awake] to all the problems of the world that have been orchestrated and designed to work against them whilst others are not. Example: "You know old chap, I'm quite sure that the reason I am unemployable, living in poverty and full of suicidal thoughts is because of what other people have judged me to be. Yes, 'tis not one's own inability, and responsibility, to improve one's life, 'tis the world that's wrong".
